English: This magnificent stupa was built by King Bagyidaw (the successor of Bodawpaya) as a representation of Mount Meru, home of the gods,
with its seven mountain ranges located on an island in the middle of the water. Here, the water is depicted literally, with small Buddha statues enshrined amidst the "waves." The stupa was damaged by earthquake in 1838, and restored in 1874.
