On November 7, 2024, Anthony Nephew, 43, killed four of his relatives in two houses in Duluth, Minnesota; officers came to a house at 2 p.m. and found a woman, the ex-wife of Nephew, and a 15-year-old boy dead, after reports were made to police of gunshots or a commotion occurring inside. Subsequently, officers went to another house in Duluth, several miles away, and surrounded his home. Later on, they found Nephew, his current wife, and their 7-year-old son dead.
The shooting had undertones regarding Nephew's discontent with Donald Trump winning the 2024 United States presidential election, and had threatened to kill his relatives during the previous summer if Trump were to win; other issues regarding Nephew and his family and his mental health issues were reported in the past few years, or mentioned by those who knew the Nephew family.
Background
[edit]On July 3, Nephew had threatened to commit suicide with a knife and stab his wife, prompting her to call the police on him.[1] During the police's visit, the man told them that the Russians had control of his mind and requested the officer return and kill him and his family if Donald Trump won the 2024 presidential election.[2] In spite of this incident, the man was allowed to receive a gun permit around a month before the election.[3]
