Redirect suppression and renaming files
[edit]Hi Aafi. While I was looking at the rename requests made by the requester currently at WP:PERM/FM, I noticed some that you accepted in which you renamed the file without leaving behind a redirect. Per WP:PMRC, redirect suppression is permitted only for redirects that would have otherwise been eligible for speedy deletion. (Indeed, "a pattern of using the permission to suppress redirects that would not have been eligible for one of the criteria for speedy deletion" is a ground for revocation per WP:PMRR#3.) From 2019 to 2022, there used to be a boldly added redirect-suppression criterion PMRC#10 (old page version) "Moving little-used files when all uses have been manually changed to the new title (WP:CSD#G6)", but it was removed in 2022 because there was substantial opposition to deleting/suppressing these redirects, so it didn't have the consensus necessary to be included in a criterion for speedy deletion.
With that in mind, could you tell me what criterion for speedy deletion (or equivalently redirect suppression), if any, each of the following suppressed move redirects (to pick a few) would fall into?

- @SilverLocust, thanks for the detailed message. I wasn't aware of the discussions that have been around about file renaming here. My rationale about not leaving a redirect here is "broken/implausible redirect", and majorly about the second one - the name itself is entirely broken. Seems that there have been a lot of developments over the time, I will restore the redirect for Facebook & Visual Prison, if that works? I will take a better look on all of these criterias by tonight. ─ Aafī on Mobile (talk) 06:46, 14 December 2024 (UTC)
- I have restored all of these redirects and seems a lot has changed here (and I accept that I haven't been through the updates guidelines/policies). I will check with other file-renames as well that I have processed in the last couple of days. Thanks again! Regards, Aafi (talk) 07:01, 14 December 2024 (UTC)
- Thanks, whenever you get the chance is fine. If the answer is that they wouldn't fall into any of the criteria, that's perfectly fine so long as you intend to limit use to those criteria in the future.
- As to "broken/implausible redirect", that wouldn't be a valid reason. There is a criterion WP:PMRC#7 (WP:R3) for an "implausible typo or misnomer" but "only when the page is a recent creation". But each of these files was created/uploaded years ago, so that wouldn't apply. (A broken redirect normally refers to a redirect to a nonexistent page (WP:G8), but of course that also isn't applicable here.) SilverLocust 💬 07:08, 14 December 2024 (UTC)
- You are right, @SilverLocust. For more clarity on WP:File mover (as it is different from page-moving) I have initiated a discussion on Wikipedia talk:File mover#File redirects. The reason is that it currently mentions RevDel criterias to be considered for suppressing/not suppressing redirects. Regards, Aafi (talk) 07:13, 14 December 2024 (UTC)
Question from AoifeRebeka (22:01, 17 December 2024)
[edit]Hello, I had an earlier draft of my entry on Lorelei Erisis that seems to have been deleted with the last week or so. Is there an archive somewhere so I can keep working on it? --AoifeRebeka (talk) 22:01, 17 December 2024 (UTC)
