ArbCom 2024 Elections voter message

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

Wikipedia help for my rabbi

Hi David,

I'm really hoping you can help my previous rabbi, Pinchas Taylor. He's based in South Florida (I now live in Israel). He’s notable enough to be in Wikipedia but he doesn’t know anyone who can help him get a Wikipedia page. I personally don’t contribute to Wikipedia, so I can’t help him much, though I understand Wikipedia’s guidelines around notability, COI, etc. I suggested he collect all his media appearances, speaking gigs, etc. and write a draft page, which he has done (https://docs.google.com/document/d/1p8TQ1qv3G5z8nklHhcGBWsP4SHexv--PInramhiJbJo/edit?tab=t.0). Can you help him, or at least point him in the right direction?

It is rare, if not frowned upon, that a person wants to write a Wikipedia article about himself. Wikipedia is not a promotional service for people wanting to make a name for themselves. It simply does not resonate well with Wikipedia guidelines. A person who is notable will automaically receive the attention that he or she deserves, and Wikipedians will come along and submit an article on that notable individual. I do not know the rabbi that you've mentioned, nor have I ever heard anything about him. I think that it is best for the rabbi to continue his work in Yiddishkeit and when and if the time comes, when more people have heard about him and feel that he is worthy, on his own merits, of a biographical article on Wikipedia, that will, in fact, be written by an uninvolved editor.
