Edit to Kilowatt hour
[edit]Your contributions suggest you know a great deal about electric power. It may very well be that the electrical power engineers you deal with usually write the symbol "kWh". But an encyclopedia article about a unit is aimed at people who are not familiar with the unit. For such people it is more helpful to use symbols that follow the same pattern for all SI, "kW⋅h", rather than a special exception that only applies to this one unit. Jc3s5h (talk) 15:52, 17 May 2012 (UTC)
- "kWh" hour is the usual kind of writing 1000 times Watt times hour. kWh is also a quite widespread units which you find on your electricity bills. The dot is not needed and artificially divides the kilowatthour. --Gunnar (talk) 13:40, 19 April 2016 (UTC)

It has been blocked from editing to prevent further abuse. If you get this message, please read the following information. Wikipedia tries to be open, but we sometimes must block a range of IP addresses or an entire network, to prevent editing by abusers, vandals, or block evaders. These "range blocks" can affect users who have done nothing wrong. If you are a legitimate user, follow the instructions below to edit despite the block. Users who are the intended target of a range block may still appeal the block. IP users (without an account): If you do not currently have an account and wish to bypass this block, an account can be created to allow you to edit. Please use this form to request an account under your preferred username. In general, these blocks only prevent users who are not logged in from editing; once you are logged in, the block will no longer affect you in any way. It is important that you use an e-mail address issued to you by your ISP, school, or organisation, so we may verify that you are a legitimate user. Administrators: The IP block exemption user right should only be applied to allow users to edit using web host in exceptional circumstances, and they should usually be directed to the functionaries team via email. If you intend to give the IPBE user right, a CheckUser needs to take a look at the account. This can be requested most easily at SPI Quick Checkuser Requests. [edit]Hello, Gunnar.Kaestle. Voting in the 2016 Arbitration Committee elections is open from Monday, 00:00, 21 November through Sunday, 23:59, 4 December to all unblocked users who have registered an account before Wednesday, 00:00, 28 October 2016 and have made at least 150 mainspace edits before Sunday, 00:00, 1 November 2016.
The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.
If you wish to participate in the 2016 election, please review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 22:08, 21 November 2016 (UTC)
The article COGIX has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
No evidence of passing WP:GNG.
While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Winged Blades Godric 16:46, 15 July 2017 (UTC)
How to cite sources

[edit]Disambiguation link notification for January 15
[edit]Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Mochovce Nuclear Power Plant, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page MW (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

Ways to improve Julien Abraham
[edit]Hello, Gunnar.Kaestle,
Thank you for creating Julien Abraham.
I have tagged the page as having some issues to fix, as a part of our page curation process and note that:
Might want to consider moving this page to your WP:SANDBOX instead of the mainspace to avoid deletion since you've included no references.
The tags can be removed by you or another editor once the issues they mention are addressed. If you have questions, leave a comment here and prepend it with {{Re|Meatsgains}}

[edit]Would you be able to take a look at Greenhouse gas emissions by Turkey?
[edit]Hello Gunnar,
I see you are very knowledgeable about climate change. As I am trying to improve Greenhouse gas emissions by Turkey to FA standard would you be able to read it and point out what could be better? Even if you don't have much time I am sure you will be able to quickly spot at least one or two areas for improvement which I have missed.
Regards

- @Chidgk1: If you want to use some data, I recommend this source on historical CO2 emissions (country specific): https://folk.universitetetioslo.no/roberan/GCB2020.shtml --Gunnar (talk) 20:57, 3 October 2021 (UTC)
- Ah thanks for your changes and that link - interesting I had not seen a Kaya identity graph before. I think when I put the article in for FA there will be plenty of comments on the grammar so I don't need to take up your time with that, but have you any comments on the technical side? For example have I presented any tech info in a misleading way? If so please could you drop me a note on Talk:Greenhouse gas emissions by Turkey Chidgk1 (talk) 11:29, 5 October 2021 (UTC)

The article Igor Lopatonok has been proposed for deletion because it appears to have no references. Under Wikipedia policy, this biography of a living person will be deleted after seven days unless it has at least one reference to a reliable source that directly supports material in the article.
If you created the article, please don't be offended. Instead, consider improving the article. For help on inserting references, see Referencing for beginners, or ask at the help desk. Once you have provided at least one reliable source, you may remove the {{prod blp/dated}} tag. Please do not remove the tag unless the article is sourced. If you cannot provide such a source within seven days, the article may be deleted, but you can request that it be undeleted when you are ready to add one. — Ⓜ️hawk10 (talk) 20:48, 13 June 2022 (UTC)
Igor Lopatonok moved to draftspace
[edit]An article you recently created, Igor Lopatonok, is not suitable as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:
" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. - Hi, I've moved this back to drafts, because otherwise it would have been likely taken to AfD. When I moved it, it had only one valid source (IMDb not being accepted as reliable); I can see that as I was moving it, you added another source, but that still leaves the referencing rather weak. For example his personal/family details are only supported by IMDb, which isn't acceptable in a BLP article. Please ensure that notability is properly established, and all material statements fully supported by reliable sources, before publishing this. Trump didn't win the 2020 elections ...
[edit]... and the Revolution of Dignity was no coup. I kindly asked you to stop flooding my user's talk page with pro-war propaganda. You didn't respect that demand. Claiming that U.S. involvement in that revolution was one of the reasons the Russians boiled over
is pro-war propaganda and is hateful to me personally, not least because four of Putin's (not "the Russians'") victims are now studying in my class. Learn how to find good sources at WP:RS (I especially recommend section 4), read Andreas Kappeler and Serhii Plokhy, and listen to Timothy Snyder's lectures before going to my talk page again. Rsk6400 (talk) 16:01, 1 October 2023 (UTC)
- Well, some say that the Maidan revolution was a coup, where people were killed on both sides [1], and some say it wasn't. Let's wait until the historians find out after they had access to the secret archives to choose a final answer. By the way, dignity is defined as "a calm and serious manner that deserves respect" [2]. I don't believe that this includes a violent uprising with many killings. --Gunnar (talk) 16:35, 1 October 2023 (UTC)

but in social sciences like history where we still are in the process of putting pieces of the puzzle together
at Ukraine on Fire. Please let me say that I as a historian feel that you are wrong. And I also think that you are depreciating the work of social scientists. It is not "we" who are "putting pieces ... together", but academics. And I think we should (and can) trust that they know their jobs and the limits of their knowledge. I don't think that you should compare real experts on Ukraine (like Kappeler or e.g. Karl Schlögel) with all those people you mentioned. That was the opinion of a historian, but we also have a rule on WP, which is neutrally reporting what reliable sources say, without OR. Rsk6400 (talk) 07:22, 2 October 2023 (UTC)- Let me just point that with "we" I often mean the whole of mankind. By the way, the special class of historians which are experts in classical antiquity may have less know-how in contemporary history. For instance, it took only a few days for The Nation to comment on the leaked phone call between Nuland and Pyatt: "In the course of a little over four minutes, the two American diplomats exchange ideas about who ought to be promoted, and who ought to be demoted, by the United States inside Ukraine, which is suffering through a difficult and even violent political dispute over whether Ukraine will tilt east, toward Russia, or west, toward the United States and Europe. [..] As if it’s any of her business, Nuland says" Yatseniuk should go in and Klitschko shall stay out. Can you tell me how the historians you prefer interpret this conversation? --Gunnar (talk) 13:33, 3 October 2023 (UTC)
- About putting pieces together: In Operation Ajax you can read the sentence: "In August 2013, the U.S. government formally acknowledged the U.S. role in the coup by releasing a bulk of previously classified government documents that show it was in charge of both the planning and the execution of the coup, including the bribing of Iranian politicians, security and army high-ranking officials, as well as pro-coup propaganda." In this case it took 60 years for putting the pieces together. There may have been different theories and some evidence available in the decades directly following the event, but the clear picture only became visible after public access to the archives was granted. --Gunnar (talk) 13:41, 3 October 2023 (UTC)

Introduction to contentious topics
[edit]You have recently edited a page related to the Balkans or Eastern Europe, a topic designated as contentious. This standard message is designed as an introduction to contentious topics and does not imply that there are any issues with your editing.
A special set of rules applies to certain topic areas, which are referred to as contentious topics. These are specially designated topics that tend to attract more persistent disruptive editing than the rest of the project and have been designated as contentious topics by the Arbitration Committee. When editing a contentious topic, Wikipedia’s norms and policies are more strictly enforced, and Wikipedia administrators have special powers in order to reduce disruption to the project.
Within contentious topics, editors should edit carefully and constructively, refrain from disrupting the encyclopedia, and:
- adhere to the purposes of Wikipedia;
- comply with all applicable policies and guidelines;
- follow editorial and behavioural best practice;
- comply with any page restrictions in force within the area of conflict; and
- refrain from gaming the system.
Editors are advised to err on the side of caution if unsure whether making a particular edit is consistent with these expectations. If you have any questions about contentious topics procedures you may ask them at the arbitration clerks' noticeboard or you may learn more about this contentious topic here. You may also choose to note which contentious topics you know about by using the {{Ctopics/aware}} template.
The mentality (and also the rules) here at the English WP are a bit different from those of the German WP. Since you are a very productive editor at the German WP, I have no doubt that you are acting in good faith, but your edit warring at Ukraine on Fire still could lead to a block if you continue.
