Information icon Please refrain from making unconstructive edits to Wikipedia. Your edits appear to be disruptive and have been or will be reverted.

Please ensure you are familiar with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines, and please do not continue to make edits that appear disruptive. Continued disruptive editing may result in loss of editing privileges. Thank you.

You've added information without a reference. Saying that the information is available outside of Wikipedia is not adequate. If its widely availabe then feel free to add it with a reference. Knitsey (talk) 02:15, 18 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Please also read WP:VAND, which has a very specific meaning. You might also want to take a look at WP:AGF. Hope this helps. Knitsey (talk) 02:19, 18 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I’ve already mentioned twice that Dany Garcia’s birthdate, November 29, 1968, is confirmed by sources outside of Wikipedia. If you check the Simple English Wikipedia, it lists the same birthdate without citations. The information is widely confirmed by external sources, so no citations are necessary for this well-established fact. Please respect the established information and refrain from removing it without justification. Iarrah (talk) 02:19, 18 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
This is Wikipedia, I don't need to check Simple Wikipedia. Please familiarise yourself with WP:BLP and referencing. Simple Wikipedia and Wikipedia are different. We require high standards, particularly for a BLP. Please provide a reference. Knitsey (talk) 02:25, 18 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Please stop your disruptive editing.

If you continue to disrupt Wikipedia, as you did at Dany Garcia, you may be blocked from editing. Iarrah (talk) 02:42, 18 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I think you should just go straight to Admin noticeboard. We obviously need a second opinion on this. Knitsey (talk) 02:45, 18 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Iarrah: IMDB isn't a suitable reference as it is classed as self published source. You seem to be having a problem with citing a source, if you want, I can add a source if you let me know what it is? Knitsey (talk) 02:57, 18 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Iarrah: I really am willing to help you with adding the reference if you want? Call it a team effort? You seem to be struggling with the format. I was hopeless at referencing for a while but got some help, so I'm willing to pass that help on? Knitsey (talk) 03:15, 18 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Nice timing (User:Harshitdubey017)

Was just there trying to justify a G11 tag myself. Second paragraph was pushing me that way. Jumped into his contribs, jumped back to the talk page, and you’ve done the job for me, haha!

Jacob Tremblay

[edit]

I represent Jacob Tremblay and I want to delete the photo wikipedia is using. It is very outdated. We would like to eventually replace it, but for now we want it deleted. 2604:3D08:627F:DB40:21C6:A622:2DF:608E (talk) 16:49, 22 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hello there and thank you for the explanation. There are a few thungs you will need to do.
Please log back into your account. I will pop a conflict of interest note on your talk page which will give you ditections on how to edit. You will need to put a declaration on your user page about conflict of interest then request edits on the article talk page. If you have any further problems them please do reach out. Knitsey (talk) 17:03, 22 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I've left you a conflict of interest notice on your user talk page. It has all of the instructions. Knitsey (talk) 17:08, 22 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

You retracted my published information

[edit]

Hi, you retracted the information I added to the Rosenheim Mansion about Palaye Royale's new music video "Dark Side of the Silver Spoon" being filmed there. But I cannot add a reference to this because Wikipedia apparently doesn't allow links to YouTube. The video isn't posted anywhere else online that I've seen yet as something to which one can directly link so how can I abide Wikipedia's rules but still create the reference so Palaye Royale will get the recognition they deserve? Mountainsofcheesecake (talk) 17:40, 23 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there, thanks for the message. I had a look at the video on YouTube before I reverted your edit. I couldn't see any reference to Rosenheim Mansion on that video (not on the video description). Have you had a look around for any other places this would be referenced? Knitsey (talk) 17:45, 23 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I'm also unsure if the edit would stand anyway as the band isn't notable in terms of Wikipedia. Knitsey (talk) 17:46, 23 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
The mansion isn't mentioned by name in the video (it's a music video for the band, doubt they'd mention the filming locations) but anyone who's ever seen the mansion before (film or real life) can tell it's the same mansion, hence I wanted to refer to the video as an appearance of the mansion in media. Mountainsofcheesecake (talk) 19:57, 23 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
The few seconds of the outside could be the same building but there is nothing to indicate it was filmed there. If you do find any reference to it then by all means come back and see if it's suitable.
What you could also do is try and create an article about the band? I don't know if anyone has tried creating an article for them before? I can pop some notes and links on you talk page if you like? Knitsey (talk) 20:05, 23 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Rollback, Twinkle, etc, Pro-tip

[edit]

Hi. Whilst I appreciate your anti-vandalism work, as we all should do, I offer the following observation. When you write in an edit summary, "DanCherekTheBast*rd", "Fetishise Asians or Hate Asians - Your Choice", Dickcheese McSmegmahole, JOOST KLEIN CAME TO MY HOUSE AT 330am., or indeed this, many admins will spend some time cleaning up after the vandal, then subsequently spend an equal amount of time cleaning up after you. Much denial of recognition is achieved by not repeating their slurs. Rollback, useful but overrated. HTH. -- zzuuzz (talk) 22:53, 25 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi zzuuzz Do you mean not to use rollback? Knitsey (talk) 22:57, 25 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Let me phrase your question this way. Should I write something abusive in edit summary? Answers below. -- zzuuzz (talk) 22:58, 25 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Are you saying I shouldn't revert? Knitsey (talk) 23:01, 25 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
No, I'm saying you should think about your edit summary. And yes if rollback offers you no choice but to write something abusive, do something else. Remove the text, use the undo button while changing the default summary, use Twinkle's restore function, manually revert, or something else, just don't write abuse in the edit summary. -- zzuuzz (talk) 23:06, 25 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
OK, I'm still lost. I didn't write anything abusive. I would rarely write anything in response to vandalism edits as it feeds the trolls. Especially not to the LTAs that are about at the moment.
I did once write in an edit summary that 'the 1950s called and they want you back' in response to an edit using the word 'negro'. But I didn’t write anything in hose edit summaries. I'm obviously not getting it, I'm sorry. Knitsey (talk) 23:14, 25 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Oh hang on, by 'writing something abusive' do you mean the automated inclusion of the user name? Knitsey (talk) 23:15, 25 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I think we're getting through. -- zzuuzz (talk) 23:20, 25 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
ffs zzuuzz lol. Firstly, I do apologise, I didn't realise that using rollback would cause more problems with abusive names. No excuses, I should have realised that and I will make sure I manually revert in future when it comes to 'dubious' names. Secondly, you could have just said, anyone reading this might think I've been abusive towards users, and apart from probably 3 or 4 times using a polite, humorous response, I don't use abusive summaries. Thank you for letting me know, I appreciate it. Knitsey (talk) 23:27, 25 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
zzuuzz if its OK, I have a question about the LTA that usually uses ip's, the one that is writing the long messages. Is reverting them still OK? I notice they (or a copycat) has started creating accounts again. The account names, so far, are innocuous. Or should I just leave them and report to AIV. Knitsey (talk) 23:42, 25 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
The one posting to the admin boards? They're usually reported to AIV/TB2, so you may want to check that, but reporting them is no harm. At this point I'll take the opportunity to point to WP:BRI, as opposed to WP:RBI. In other words, blocking is probably a higher priority than reverting. -- zzuuzz (talk) 23:46, 25 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Yes that one. Mostly I've just been reporting to AIV. The tp's they have created, I've just been requesting G8 without leaving a message on their tp after reporting. Knitsey (talk) 23:53, 25 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Well there's no point warning them, that's for sure. Getting the message doesn't appear to be their thing. But there's no harm in duplicating bot reports. A lot of duplication and redundancy happens a lot, and there are redundant things that are duplicated and happen a lot, but it's often soon cleared up. -- zzuuzz (talk) 23:58, 25 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Ahh, that was my next question. When edit filters are adjusted then the bot reports but I have sometimes duplicated it with 'LTA' just to make sure admins are aware it's them. Good to know. Thanks again. Knitsey (talk) 00:01, 26 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Skateboarding problem

[edit]

Heya. The disruptive editor Scampi62 seems to be ignoring our warnings and advice. I've raised it to the CVU Libera chatroom but haven't received any reply. I see you reverted some of his latest edits but I'm worried he will come back with more. How should we do to resolve this? Scuffedsherm (talk) 13:48, 31 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I'm giving them chance to reply then off to edit waring noticeboard. Knitsey (talk) 13:52, 31 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I don't want to go over 3RR myself. Knitsey (talk) 13:52, 31 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
In fact, looking at their reply on the TP I'm thinking they are a sock puppet. Knitsey (talk) 13:53, 31 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Very much so, their account was created today. Scuffedsherm (talk) 13:55, 31 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I've left a message for the admin who dealt with someone pretty similar yesterday, who turned out to have created a few sockpuppet accounts. Wait and see what they say. Knitsey (talk) 14:02, 31 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Alright, thank you. Scuffedsherm (talk) 14:05, 31 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I think your signature is broken. It links to User:Knitsey(she/her), not User:Knitsey. jlwoodwa (talk) 18:45, 31 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Oph, is that better? Knitsey (talk) 18:47, 31 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I might try that later. It took me long enough to change the colours lol. I should be embarrassed by that but hey, I'm an old git. Thank you though for letting me know about it. Knitsey (talk) 18:57, 31 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned article

[edit]

Hi, and thanks for your edits to try to de-orphan articles. On Wikipedia, an "orphan article" is an article that no other article links to. No other articles link to Christiane Wolf, for example. You added links to other articles from Christiane Wolf, but it is still an orphan, and to de-orphan it, we would need to link to Christiane Wolf from another article. Thanks, Wikishovel (talk) 14:48, 5 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Aargh! I completely missed that. I thought that because she is in some of the Categories then the article could be de-orphaned? But you're saying categories don't count for de-orphaning? Knitsey (talk) 15:04, 5 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
If I add her to the Bielefeld article under notable people then that would count? Knitsey (talk) 15:06, 5 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
That's right, categories don't count, and neither do disambiguation pages. But yes, Bielefeld is a good idea. Wikishovel (talk) 15:20, 5 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Ffs I'm such a numpty. Ok thank you so much. I will make sure I check in future. Thank you for pointing me in the right direction. Knitsey (talk) 15:32, 5 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Ha, no you're not. We're all learning here. :-) Wikishovel (talk) 15:38, 5 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I know, I'm just annoyed at myself for not picking up on the category thing. If you spot any more errors then please do let me know. I've no problem with being pointed in the right direction. Knitsey (talk) 15:41, 5 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

just seriously though what reference do I need for a very very common opinion Henryjmanhol (talk) 16:03, 10 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

i would just want to know because I think we both know that it is true 👍 Henryjmanhol (talk) 16:05, 10 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hi there, I'm sure there will be something in local press that might help? Maybe it's won an award at some point? Have a look and see what you find. If you want assistance with inserting a reference then pop back here and I will see if I can help?
Could I also point you in the direct Wikipedia:Civility. Being rude isn't the way to go on Wikipedia.
Let me know if you find a ref. Knitsey (talk) 16:08, 10 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

i am not being rude but I just think that you can't really get a reference for a common held belief like i said there is no factual reference for religion either and that is on Wikipedia Henryjmanhol (talk) 16:14, 10 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Huddersfield isn't a biggie. But the other edit that you made is. I'm sure if you have a look around for a reference (as you believe it's such a commonly held belief) you should be able to find something.
As for our numerous articles on religion, you will see that there are scholarly citations for the opinions being expressed. Knitsey (talk) 16:20, 10 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
What is wrong with this opinion But to ask would the countries gdp be good enough as they are higher than the rest of Europe. I'm 13 I'm probably not going to read every term and condition but I do appreciate the response which seemed more real than earlier Henryjmanhol (talk) 16:22, 10 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
if gdp isn't good enough what would be Henryjmanhol (talk) 16:23, 10 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I think that you could always ask on the article talk page? I would frame your question so that it includes the text you want to add but ask what type of reference would be suitable? Say what you've already said here about GDP. Everyone here is a volunteer so you might need to wait for a response. Wikipedia is a collaborative project, so I would suggest getting the opinion of more than one editor. Link Talk:Western Europe Knitsey (talk) 16:32, 10 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
on Wikipedia itself on the economy of Europe page it says that the gap per capita is higher in western countries more millionaires too Henryjmanhol (talk) 16:33, 10 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
ok how do I insert a reference is it difficult? (I might not bother if it is) Henryjmanhol (talk) 16:34, 10 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
What I would suggest is, have a look here Wikipedia:Edit requests then pop over to the talk page and state the exact text you want to add along with the reference and someone will take it from there. It's probably the easiest way. If the text is suitable then they will add it for you along with the reference. Just say your new so could someone do it for you. Knitsey (talk) 16:38, 10 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Ok might try it another time didn't realise it was taken so seriously but thanks for the help and deference Henryjmanhol (talk) 16:44, 10 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Mass rollback

[edit]

Good old Writ Keeper produced this, apparently--it's like Kryptonite. Admins only? I don't know--I never read the instructions. ;) Drmies (talk) 01:45, 21 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

er mer Gerd, I've died and gone to heaven. MASS ROLLBACK, who knew? Well, everyone apart from me lol. Knitsey (talk) 01:48, 21 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Well User:Win8x knew, apparently. I wish it were JUST FOR ME. Yeah, it's great, so be very, very careful with it. If you do use it--there's a website that visualizes, with audio, changes in the Wiki. Hit "mass rollback" only after you open up that website: it's really cool. Drmies (talk) 02:01, 21 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not sure I've ever needed it before today. I might leave it for now as I would probably mess it up.
The visual/audio thing, about a week ago I was nosing around someones user page and there was a link to audio/visual edits on Wikipedia. It showed all the edits live, as a ping and created music out of it. You could click on a ing and it took you to the edit. BUT, I can't remember where I saw it. Knitsey (talk) 02:08, 21 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

There it is. Thank you so much @Writ Keeper:. Knitsey (talk) 10:09, 21 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I use Selective Rollback instead of MassRollback where I hold the rollback permission on projects, including on Meta. Anyway, remember that time where an admin undid my work when I added archive templates on your behalf (but later restored), and you thanked me later on my talk page? Codename Noreste 🤔 Talk 03:50, 6 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I do remember that. I think I managed to piss of you and Bishone. I felt so bad about that 😫 Knitsey (talk) 09:11, 6 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hey! Just to help out

[edit]

On your recent post to AIV, you were asking if there was an easy way to revert all of a user's edits. You can use MassRollback for that, which you can view here: User:Writ Keeper/Scripts/massRollback. You have the rollback permission, so you can use it. Have a good day! win8x (talking | spying) 01:46, 21 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Knitsey I am sorry to hear about your Dad. This is non-urgent issue but I was hoping you or others could explain your removal of the external link on the Hemorrhoidal artery embolization page to an academic medical center with additional multimedia information on the topic. I tried to replicate the format of a comparable page (Prostatic artery embolization) and they have do the same thing. Itsxyzcare84 (talk) 02:20, 26 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Itsxyzcare84: apologies but I will get around to looking at this but it probably won't be until Sunday. My signal here is really bad. Thank you. Knitsey (talk) 17:02, 26 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Understood, family first! Thank you for looking into it. Itsxyzcare84 (talk) 17:58, 26 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hi @Itsxyzcare84: sorry for the delay. Can you post the external link here again for me. The link copied from your edit is coming up 404. Thank you. Knitsey (talk) 20:34, 28 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Proposed external link: https://www.uclahealth.org/medical-services/radiology/interventional-radiology/HAE Itsxyzcare84 (talk) 14:41, 29 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks @Itsxyzcare84:. That is the same link as reference 1 so there is no need to repeat it as an external link. I originally removed it as it is a paid for health care site, advertising health care services. Although it contains information on the procedure, I would have been tempted to remove it as a reference as well BUT, I generally stay clear of medical articles as it's not my expertise, so I'm leaving that as a reference.
I hope this helps? Knitsey (talk) 14:57, 29 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

hi, You removed external links that I added on the gas lift page. These were refering to blog articles, online course ans Youtube video all dealing with gas lift production (petroleum application). The course is a reference and brings as much value for the readers than a link to a book on the topic on Amazon. Damien.leonard (talk) 23:07, 28 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there.
The course links are spam. People can Google (other search engines available) courses if they are interested.
Blogs, in general, have no oversight are not usually appropriate links. Knitsey (talk) 23:10, 28 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
why a link to buy a book on the topic is ok, while a link to buy an online course on the topic is a spam? Damien.leonard (talk) 23:14, 28 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Because Wikipedia isn't a repository for training companies.
I've just done a quick search and there are hundreds of companies offering some level of courses for the same subject. Wikipedia is not for advertising such courses, the list could end up longer than the article. Knitsey (talk) 23:21, 28 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

But THAT article. It annoys me so much. I'm at risk of reverting without looking, hoping it will die of neglect in a quiet corner of Wikipedia.

In case you are not aware, please consider User:Enterprisey/cv-revdel.js. I find it a very useful script 🇺🇦 FiddleTimtrent FaddleTalk to me 🇺🇦 12:09, 4 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Tim, what does it do? Knitsey (talk) 12:16, 4 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I've just caught the link to the description. Knitsey (talk) 12:17, 4 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
It notes the revisions whose text is a copyvio (you have to tell it) and then it puts a cv-revdel banner on the article page, and alerts an admin with the correct powers. 🇺🇦 FiddleTimtrent FaddleTalk to me 🇺🇦 12:18, 4 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
The first couple of times you use it you will make minor errors. The are forgivable, but it makes the whole job easier for you and for the admin handling it after that 🇺🇦 FiddleTimtrent FaddleTalk to me 🇺🇦 12:19, 4 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
That is a huge improvement on typing out all the details.
So once I've reverted I use the link and it automatically alerts admins that rev/del is required? Knitsey (talk) 12:21, 4 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Yes. Your only job is to locate the first rev that includes the copyvio and the last one. Using the buttons in page history for earliest and latest, these will, if you opt, transfer them to the revdel notice as if by magic. And you can handle more than one range at a time 🇺🇦 FiddleTimtrent FaddleTalk to me 🇺🇦 12:52, 4 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
This is great, I will try it next time.
If there is copyvio, and someone else edits the copyvio after, do I include the subsequent edits? Or just the original? This is probably really obvious, but I'm a numpty at tech stuff. Knitsey (talk) 14:22, 4 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
False start but I've installed it now. Knitsey (talk) 14:40, 4 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

UAA: sund. explns.

[edit]

Hey, Knitsey, to maybe expand a bit from what I said on Valereee's talk page about UAA (and please forgive me if this is all stuff you already know): in my mind, there are two factors to deciding whether an account is appropriate to report to UAA.

First is the username, obviously, but especially when reporting promotional/spam accounts, there are a few things to keep in mind. The biggest thing that makes most promotional names disallowed is the idea of "role accounts"; which is to say, accounts that represent a particular company or position at the company as a whole, not an individual. The idea is that only one person should ever have access to a particular account, and if we have accounts whose name indicate that they belong to a company (think Markcross1845), or a particular position at a company (a hypothetical User:MarkCrossBrandManager), then that suggests those accounts are just run by whoever has been assigned to that task within the company, and if they get reassigned or change jobs, then the account will pass to whoever takes over for them.

Something that's illustrative here is what's sometimes known as "the Mark at Alcoa exception", which is that if an account unambiguously identifies that it's run by a specific person, then it does not fall under the role account rules and should not be reported to UAA, even if it contains a company or brand name. So, for example, the hypothetical users User:Joshua at MarkCross or User:MCBrandManager MaryAnn would not be eligible to be reported to UAA, because they indicate they're run by a specific, identifiable person. There are probably still major COI issues, and I would certainly expect them to make a paid-editor disclosure and the like, but they don't fall within the purview of UAA, because their usernames themselves aren't an issue.

Second is the edits. Generally speaking, we don't bother blocking accounts that haven't edited at UAA unless it's really egregious (and generally, promotional accounts won't be that bad), so the account needs to have edited recently to be worth reporting. And usually, for promotional editing, those edits should reflect the promotional nature of the username; so like, if Markcross1845 was innocuously editing, say, Thomas Blanke, they might not need to be reported immediately to UAA. But something like this, which is obviously promotional and related to the username, means it can be pretty safely reported to UAA. Hope this helps, Writ Keeper  15:43, 9 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

That does help quite a bit. I've reported quite a lot of spammy type promotional accounts to UAA but the COI 'crossover' I still found a little confusing.
I've see a few accounts reported to UAA, which they have subsequently been advised that it is a COI account.
I never thought of it in terms of 'role accounts'. That makes things clearer as to why sometimes it's COI and sometimes can go to UAA.
Thank you for that, really helpful. Knitsey (talk) 15:56, 9 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I would like the first part of the page to contain a sentence similar to "Italy has made a substantial contribution to the cultural and historical heritage of Europe", not the current vague phrase. Could you give me some suggestions? JacktheBrown (talk) 23:01, 11 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Jack, do you mean you want to replace, As a cultural superpower, Italy has long been a renowned global centre of art, music, literature, cuisine, fashion, science and technology, and the source of multiple inventions and discoveries.? Knitsey (talk) 07:59, 12 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I have already improved the sentence by adding "global": [1], [2]. JacktheBrown (talk) 12:05, 12 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Ok Jack. Thanks. Knitsey (talk) 12:06, 12 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for the revert. The user seems to be showcasing signs of WP:NOTHERE. Best, Reading Beans, Duke of Rivia 12:08, 22 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

That was a terrible threat to you and your family. I've seen people blocked for a lot less. Threat to you, your family, police threats etc.
I've no idea what '7 is real' means. Knitsey (talk) 12:11, 22 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I hope God bless their soul. The 7 is a local lingo for the Pyrate Confraternity or even worse, Supreme Eiye Confraternity. Tracking me in real life could be hard or easy (I attend Wikimeetup in my country), but I can’t really say. Best, Reading Beans, Duke of Rivia 02:33, 23 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Sheesh, well I hope his block has put an end to it, and it's just empty words. I know some people get upset when things don't go their way on Wikipedia but that was ridiculous. Knitsey (talk) 07:03, 23 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Reading Beans and Knitsey: Just FYI, threats should really be reported to User:Emergency. I've had to do it a few times, and have never gotten in trouble, even though I've reported threats that I sincerely believe (hope?) are a joke. I dream of horses (Hoofprints) (Neigh at me) 11:12, 23 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@I dream of horses:, I didn't even know that existed. Thank you for the link. If it were this type of behaviour, would I be OK to report it to User:Emergency, even though the threats were not aimed at me? (I didn't see subsequent threats on their own talk page as they were dealt with pretty quickly).
Would User:Emergency deal with rev/del? Knitsey (talk) 11:24, 23 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not sure if User:Emergency would deal with rev/del. Typically, if I'm dealing with an "User:Emergency" level situation and think some level of hiding the situation would be beneficial, I'd delegate that task to User:Oversight. They have rev-deleted things I've sent them in the past, but I'll sometimes send User:Oversight edits sort of knowing what I'm sending them is in a gray area.
And yeah, you're allowed to send them threats that aren't directed at you. In fact, I think you're encouraged to do so. I dream of horses (Hoofprints) (Neigh at me) 11:53, 23 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, thank you I dream of horses, I will save the links and hopefully won't need to use them, at least, not often. You've been really helpful. Knitsey (talk) 12:31, 23 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I'll just add or confirm that in my experience, User:Emergency (which essentially manifests as User:WMFOffice) doesn't do much in relation to rev-deletion, blocking, sockpuppetry checks, or any similar activity. Therefore, you'll probably always want to get the normal admins involved through normal processes. -- zzuuzz (talk) 13:08, 23 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not sure how they do respond to emergency requests? Is it just logged, in case? Knitsey (talk) 13:16, 23 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Well it's definitely logged. They will also send a reply which says "we're looking into it". They then run through a procedure. It gets murky at that point, and presumably they take no action or some action, depending on things. -- zzuuzz (talk) 13:23, 23 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Have you ever had a mystery button/switch at work? You know it does something but everyone has forgotten what it actually does. That sounds like WMF Office. Knitsey (talk) 13:32, 23 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Zzuuzz and knitsey: I think the mystery is delibrate. I think it's so if no action is taken beyond getting logged, people aren't discouraged from contacting them, and if action is taken, privacy is maintained. I dream of horses (Hoofprints) (Neigh at me) 13:40, 23 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
That's fair enough I dream of horses, I know they rarely 'interfere' with day to day issues. Knitsey (talk) 13:44, 23 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I have a confession. I am a pretty decent typist, but I still make mistakes. I dream of horses (Hoofprints) (Neigh at me) 12:35, 23 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I was tempted to leave that lol. You say links, I say lonks... Knitsey (talk) 12:39, 23 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Revdeletion can be handled by any administrator. Oversight is a bigger thing, but in this case that wasn't necessary. The threat was outlandish and I don't think User talk:Reading Beans has anything to really worry about--but in case of doubt, one can always pass the threat on. I'm checking to see if there is anything else to see, just following some lonks. Drmies (talk) 12:41, 23 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

You just had to didn't you! You're not going to let that one go.
I think they were empty threats as per usual. They just bothered me, which usually it goes over my head and just find an admin to rev/del and probably block. .ost of us have dealt with something similar, this seemed a bit insidious though. I think I was just tired. Or hungry.
A lonk of sausages in a sandwich would have done the trick. Knitsey (talk) 12:46, 23 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Drmies and Knitsey: My general thought process is that while we may have an intuition of whether or not a threat is empty, we don't have the formal training to determine that. I dream of horses (Hoofprints) (Neigh at me) 12:56, 23 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I always report threats, because you never know. I mainly just deal with vandalism so I see quite a few. Maybe because I was occasionally on the receiving end of real life threats (through work), they don't usually bother me when it's online. But yes, I always report to AIV or find an admin to message. Knitsey (talk) 13:04, 23 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
True, User:I dream of horses, to some extent--I think there's more than just intuition, though. And in this case, I ran CU and geolocation supported my intuition and my reading of the style and content of the message. Oh, certainly in the case of LTAs, you can always alert ArbCom as well. Drmies (talk) 14:17, 23 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Drmies To be fair to myself, I'm someone who doesn't have the tools that you have; to put it simply, I'm not a checkuser. You're in a more specific situation. I dream of horses (Hoofprints) (Neigh at me) 01:37, 24 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

NoFap edits

[edit]

I read the articles that you accused me of not reading. Shall I give you a direct quote?

"NPR has not found these specific posts, but conspiracy theories recur on both NoFap.com and the subreddit."

They drop that first line to cover their bases before they continue to peddle the false notion that such anti-Semitism exists on the NoFap forums. I have been a regular member of r/NoFap and r/pornfree for over two years and I have not once seen any post like that during my time. Somebody1234567890 (talk) 18:00, 24 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for reaching out rather than just reverting.
We go with what the sources say. The section of the NPR article states It's an idea that migrates onto the forums, according to another former user of NoFap.com who spoke with NPR. "On the message board, there would be people saying that the Jews are controlling the porn because they're having Black men have sex with white women and that's going to deplete the white race," said Chuck, a 39-year-old in Colorado.
Then
NPR has not found these specific posts, but conspiracy theories recur on both NoFap.com and the subreddit. Some posts are explicitly antisemitic. Others use generalized language about a "global elite," or "Illuminati," narratives that echo the worldviews in some extremist spaces.
The Wikipedia article says...The NoFap forums are rife with antisemitic posts and conspiracy theories.[16] They accuse the Jews and the Illuminati of unleashing porn in order "to undermine white men". (Note the plural use of forums, as there are quite a few scattered around the internet)
I don't understand what the problem with that is? I appreciate that you say you've never seen anything antisemitic, that doesn't mean it doesn't happen. Knitsey (talk) 18:26, 24 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Can you advise how to make my edit "constructive"?

[edit]

You removed my edit on Yechiel Leiter as not constructive. Please could you advise me how to add this information in a constructive way?

It is usually noted on the pages of Israeli political figures if they live in West Bank settlements, these are illegal under international law. It seems appropriate and consistent to add this to Yechiel Leiter's entry.

Would using wording more similar to other entries be better? Using the entries for Itamar Ben-Gvir and Bezalel Smotrich as a template I would suggest.

"Leiter lives with his wife and their eight children in the Israeli settlement of Eli, which is illegal under international law, in the Israeli-occupied West Bank."

Thanks. Dimitri.yellow (talk) 01:59, 9 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @Dimitri.yellow:. Thanks for the message. Per Wikipedia:WikiProject Israel Palestine Collaboration/Current Article Issues/Archive. Legality of Israeli settlements. The agreed text for each settlement article should say the following ... The international community considers Israeli settlements in (the Golan Heights/the West Bank/East Jerusalem) illegal under international law, but the Israeli government disputes this.. It doesn't look like this is standard for WP:BLP articles. The standard seems to be to link to (in this case) West Bank then settlements.
I looked through all the places linked in in List of Israeli settlements and looked for settlements with a 'notable people' section. The people that have Wikipedia articles that are linked mainly have links above (West Bank and settlements). I've gone ahead and linked settlement.
My apologies for completely forgetting about the restriction on new editors and certain topics, meaning new editors must have 500 edits and an account age of 30 days to edit articles that fall withing those areas. I can only use the tiredness excuse. An admin has posted the Wikipedia:Contentious topics notice on your talk page.
If you need any further help then please do reach out. If I don't know an answer to a question then I know where to find it! Happy editing, Knitsey (talk) 12:43, 9 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Milchem as a surname

[edit]

Hello! I tried to edit the Milchem entry to add the fact that it is a surname but you reversed it since it is not about the company. Can we maybe change the title instead? From "Milchem" to "Milchem Inc." so we can create a wiki page on "Milchem" as a surname?

Thank you so much for your kind consideration. Chari Pang (talk) 03:33, 20 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @Chari Pang:, welcome to Wikipedia and thanks for reaching out.
I've done a quick search of Wikipedia and I can't see anyone named Milchem. Usually, names are only entered into Wikipedia when there are articles to link them to. For example, Bentham (surname) has linked articles to people with the name Bentham, or Sandeep (given name) has links to people with that name.
It might be worth having another search on Wikipedia to check if I missed someone with that name? Knitsey (talk) 13:40, 20 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hello @Knitsey ! Thank you for your quick revert. Im new to Wikipedia and your guidance is appreciated. My option then is to create a page for Milchem (surname) following Wiki's notability rule? Thanks again! Chari Pang (talk) 19:58, 20 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I'm going to refer you to the Wikipedia:Teahouse as I'm almost sure, but not 100% sure that unless we have articles for people with that name, then there isn't a need for an article on the surname. If you ask at the Teahouse I will mention that I've directed you there and why. Knitsey (talk) 20:05, 20 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
