Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited 2013 Lions Challenge Series, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Ellis Park (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Please stop re-adding unnecessary flags and wikicode to the 2013 Six Nations Championship article. MOS:ICON says that flags should not be used for mere decoration, which they clearly were, and adding code to the article before it is necessary is pointless. – PeeJay 02:09, 2 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I have removed the flags towards the referees and touch judges but have left them on the coaches as it denotes their nationality, like all rugby tournament/matches have in other Wikipedia articles.Rugby.change (talk) 02:11, 2 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Per WP:WAX, just because other rugby articles do something doesn't mean this one should. Also, why do you insist on being so utterly ham-fisted with your edits? If you only want to restore the flags on the coaches, don't revert an edit that does more than that! – PeeJay 09:52, 2 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • Per WP:DASH, there should be no spaces between the dash and the numbers in the scoreline.
  • In the line-ups, the icons should be split into separate columns, with cards coming first, then substitutions; cards and substitutions should not be in the same column.
  • In scorelines, scorers are almost always listed by surname only. Furthermore, there is no need to add times for conversions; since they are intrinsically linked to each try, people can intuit the time of each conversion from the time of the try and whether it has a 'c' (converted) after it. Also, if a player scores more than one of any type of score, the number is usually put before the times when they were scored.
  • Half-time scores are unnecessary as people can tell what the half-time score was from the times of the scores. Because it is unnecessary, it is not something we have ever done on Wikipedia before and most people see no reason to start now; after all, teams don't earn points based on the half-time scores. If you wish to imply some sort of narrative, write some prose about the matches.

I hope this sufficiently explains the reason for my reverts. Cheers. – PeeJay 19:31, 2 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I understand the column situation with regards to the cards and substitution times and I will leave them be. Regarding the conversion times and try names, there is no harm with A, having the full name and B, times conversions was scored as conversions were scored at a different time to the try. Rugby.change (talk) 19:35, 2 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
As I said, conversions are never scored more than a minute after tries, so it is unnecessary to add the time when they are scored. Full names are unnecessary because there is rarely anyone on the pitch with the same name as anyone else, and adding too many words makes the info look too cramped. Finally, we use icons for sin bins and not tries because when a player is sin-binned, they are shown a yellow card; plus, a yellow card icon is more succinct than saying 'Player X was sin-binned in the Yth minute and came back on in the Zth minute"; therefore, we use a yellow card icon to indicate a sin-binning. There is definitely no need to use an icon for tries because it says "Tries" right next to where they are listed, making any try icon redundant. The format I am trying to show you is the one that we have used for years on Wikipedia and it works perfectly well - please stop trying to change it. – PeeJay 19:50, 2 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, and by the way, in the future, please be aware of WP:EW. It is not acceptable for you to simply revert and re-revert the actions of another editor, especially if you don't intend to engage them in a discussion about the edits. – PeeJay 19:51, 2 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, I accept the surname situation and the sin binning icons as they are used by official score sheets used by broadcasters and commentators. However, conversion times are used on official score sheets and should there fore be left. This is the only thing I will change. Fair enough? Rugby.change (talk) 19:54, 2 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Not yet. Since this is something that will require consistency across all rugby articles on Wikipedia, I suggest you leave a message at WT:RU with this suggestion so that the entire WikiProject can have their input. For the meantime, can I please ask you to follow the accepted format (i.e. no conversion times and the number of scores before the times of the scores)? – PeeJay 19:57, 2 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Conversion times and scores before number of times scored are used across ALL rugby scoring articles. Eg, End of year tests, Mid year tests, Rugby championship, Pacific Nations Cup. Etc Etc Etc. Rugby.change (talk) 20:01, 2 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

This must be a new change because it was never like that until maybe a year ago. If you look back at articles from 2011 backwards, they are all as I have described them. – PeeJay 20:04, 2 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
In fact, all Six Nations articles are as I have described them. Now please revert your last edit to the 2013 article until the topic has been raised and resolved at WT:RU. – PeeJay 20:06, 2 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Ok, I admit that previous articles show number of scores before scoring times and I will leave that be and I apologize for changing that. However, as official score sheets show conversion times, they should be on the articles. As it looks like we are the main editors on this particular article, can we agree that conversion times stay on the articles? Rugby.change (talk) 20:09, 2 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

No, I do not agree that they should be included. Please raise the topic at WT:RU so that the community can make a decision. I don't think either one of us should make this decision by ourselves, but I am happy to accept what the community decides, even if I disagree. – PeeJay 20:11, 2 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
In the mean time then, can we leave them on the article? Rugby.change (talk)
According to Wikipedia guidelines, articles should follow the status quo until disputes have been resolved, so I'm afraid not. Please restore my last edit to the page. Thanks. – PeeJay 20:18, 2 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

References and citing

[edit]

Hi, your enthusiasm for editing rugby union articles is great and much appreciated, but you need to start citing references for your edits or people will tag facts or delete them. Have a look at WP:CITE. You can cite from print sources or websites, and there is a tool up the top of the edit box which helps format the cites, you can click on the arrow next to "Cite" and choose a suitable template. All the best! --Bcp67 (talk) 18:02, 13 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Sandbox

[edit]

I am not totally sure of the protocol here, but I am convinced that going into someone else's sandbox and making gross changes is unacceptable behavior. I believe that moving 2013 end-of-year rugby union tests from my sandbox without a by your leave is, at least, very rude. I would kindly ask you to never pull such a stunt again.

This article was a work in progress, not for general consumption. This article (or an earlier version of it) has been deleted twice, as far as I can see, purely on the grounds of WP:NOTE (WP:CRYSTAL was also cited, but incorrectly, I believe). I have been working on getting as many cites as possible to prove notablilty i.e. if a match is noted by half a doxen good sources, BBC, scrum.com, The Telegraph, etc. then it is surely notable. You have compounded your error by removing most of these cites. Kindly put them back in again. Hamish59 (talk) 09:31, 14 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Apologies for jumping in but Hamish, you're right - WP:UP#OWN is the guideline. You can't prevent a user changing your talk page or sandbox, but I would never contemplate doing so myself unless the user had invited me to do so and I doubt many other editors would either. Certainly wouldn't move a user's page into article space. It's poor form really to do so, whatever the formal guidelines. --Bcp67 (talk) 11:10, 14 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for that, Bcp67. WP:UP#OWN pretty much outlines my expectation. I fully understand that no one owns anything in WP, but the article was in my sandbox, not main space, for good reason. Hamish59 (talk) 12:14, 14 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I apologise for editing something in your sandbox, I thought you had just named an article with your username ahead of it to prevent deletion. I will not do anything like that again. Once agaisn, I apologise or doing what I did. Rugby.change (talk) 14:49, 14 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Apology accepted. Hamish59 (talk) 15:00, 14 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Hopefully you will have noticed that 2013 end-of-year rugby union tests has been tagged with Please put back the references and sources you chopped out before this article, once again, gets nominated for deletion. Hamish59 (talk) 17:43, 15 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Wheres the notice at the top of the article the nomination that was in place last time? Rugby.change (talk) 17:53, 15 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, mate, once again in English, please. Hamish59 (talk) 17:59, 15 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I have no idea. Why do you ask? Hamish59 (talk) 18:10, 15 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I repeat, I am trying to sort this out. Please leave it alone while I am working on it. Hamish59 (talk) 21:55, 15 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Mate, this is the third time of asking you to desist from editing 2013 end-of-year rugby union tests. You are making edits for the sake of making edits - they serve no positive purpose. So, here is an idea. Lets pretend that you did not move the article from my sandbox. Let us further assume that you know it is against protocol to muck about in someone elses sandbox. Treat this article as if it were still in my sandbox. Hamish59 (talk) 17:08, 16 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Ok fair enough. Can I ask though. Why have you got spaced between each match? It's not needed. Rugby.change (talk) 17:13, 16 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you. The extra spaces are, indeed, not necessary. But this is a work in progress so this is not important at the moment. Hamish59 (talk) 17:24, 16 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Ok I will leave it now. If you don't mind. If I see any futher matche announcements for the Autumn series, do you mind if I edit them in? Rugby.change (talk) 17:32, 16 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Pro12

[edit]

WP:NOTSTATS: "Long and sprawling lists of statistics may be confusing to readers and reduce the readability and neatness of our articles." It could effect the article that much a non-savvied up user of the website may not understand the article. Plus, 20kB is added to the page for no apparent reason. Also, it is very unlikely to be sourceable so it becomes WP:OR that way too. Suitable for a potential Rugby wiki, but not Wikipedia. Craig(talk) 07:33, 24 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

References

[edit]

Can you please get into the habit of referencing new articles that you create? You've created one on the history of rugby union internationals between Canada & the US which is completely unreferenced. You can cite web pages or printed sources, and there are templates to help with citing - but facts in articles need to be referenced. --Bcp67 (talk) 15:40, 30 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

2012 mid-year Argentina v France series

[edit]

Please can you stop changing the winner of this series to "France on points difference". I've never come across a concept of a bilateral series being decided on "points difference" and I've even cited a ref from SANZAR to show the result as drawn. Unless you can come up with a reliable cite to show that this series was indeed settled on points, can you leave it alone please. --Bcp67 (talk) 05:56, 15 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for changing that winner and the others from the mid-year series. --Bcp67 (talk) 18:49, 15 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

No problem. I did a bit of research and found that all the 1-1 result has been a draw not on point difference. Although it should be.Rugby.change (talk) 18:52, 15 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I don't follow your "should be". A drawn series is a drawn series, always has been - there's no "should be" about it. --Bcp67 (talk) 18:54, 15 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I just think in a 1-1 result, it should go down to points scored. For example, in the 6 Nations if 2 teams has 6 points, they decide who gets the higher position based on points scored over the test series. Rugby.change (talk) 18:57, 15 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
All about opinions I suppose isn't it. Can't see being there any move to settling a series on points any time soon though! --Bcp67 (talk) 19:03, 15 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Yea all about opinion. But the end of the day a draw is better than a loss especially if I'm supporting the losing side.Rugby.change (talk) 19:07, 15 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Definitely! --Bcp67 (talk) 19:08, 15 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Why have you moved various 2012 tours to (for example) "Welsh tour" rather than "Wales tour"? I'm presuming you are now going to go through and change every one of the 100+ tour articles to match this new standard which you have decided on? Or alternatively, move these 2012 tours back to where they were originally, pending some discussion at WP:RU? --Bcp67 (talk) 18:32, 1 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Dear Rugby.change, why did you revert my changes to the article? I added information on rugby matches to be held in June. --NaBUru38 (talk) 21:24, 6 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

The IRB Nations Cup and IRB Tbilisi Cup are separate tournaments. The mid-year test articles refers to so called "friendly" test matches. They are not as such a tournament like the IRB Nation Cup or IRB Tbilisi Cup. The only exception is the South African Quadrangular Tournament, as it is an in home tournament and is part of the new global rugby calendar that is mention on the 2013 mid-year rugby test series article. Rugby.change (talk) 21:41, 6 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Having names for the tournaments is just a fancy way to promote the matches. "Uruguay was runner-up at the Tbilisi Cup" sounds cooler than "Uruguay won two test matches and lost the third". Those tournaments are part of the mid-year test matches. --NaBUru38 (talk) 16:28, 11 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

yet when I chop out the "classic" matches, you reverted me. Hamish59 (talk) 14:48, 29 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

My mistake. I think that particular match should be on there. You can remove it if you wish. Rugby.change (talk) 15:05, 29 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

match day line-ups for club v national sides I would say not to. In particular, the Golden Lions games has its own article anyway. Hamish59 (talk) 16:49, 29 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I think it would be best to take it to the talk page rather than just discussing between the two of us. Hamish59 (talk) 17:00, 29 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Fair enough, I'll comment out the touch judges for the matches that haven't been played yet. However, I disagree about the flags for MOTMs, since it serves no purpose. The country name is specified, so what does the flag tell us that the country name doesn't? – PeeJay 16:48, 30 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Was I involved in the discussion on the Six Nations page? I don't remember being so. Either way, I can't agree about having flags on MOTMs, for the reason I have already stated. Seems like overkill to me. – PeeJay 16:58, 30 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
In what way? The head coach flags, in my opinion, should only be there if their country is different to the one they are coaching. The situation is the same between coaches, players and referees: flags should only be there if the person's country is of particular note or curiosity. – PeeJay 17:12, 30 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Cheers, that would be very helpful. – PeeJay 17:39, 30 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I've left a message at the All Blacks' talk page - Talk:New Zealand national rugby union team - that you may be interested in. Also just reading some of your comments above, you may want to read MOS:FLAG. I hadn't read it until recently, and didn't realise how many WP:NPOV problems can be caused by using flags! Probably worth a read if you haven't seen it before. Last thing (sorry if I'm droning on), I noticed you don't use edit summaries. Mid year tests articles

[edit]

These overview tables are a shambles just now, I'm sure you can see that. No team 'won' a tour. Some teams won test series, but a tour of three different countries is not a test series, and cannot be won. Australasia and North America are not teams, or even countries - they cannot win anything. Aggregate scores are meaningless and are unreferenced. They are irrelevant in rugby. They are not written from a neutral point of view - WP:NPOV - because they summarise the games from a northern hempisphere perspective. Instead of 'England tour...' etc, they could equally be 'mid-year tests in New Zealand' etc. They have to go, and should be replaced by a short section of prose, written from a neutral point of view. What do you think? --hippo43 (talk) 23:07, 18 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

If I said I was to tour the world. What would you think. Visiting different countries across the world perhaps? So in rugby terms, a tour of a country means to play test or non-tests in that particular country.
If I said I was to tour Europe. What would you think. Visiting different countries across Europe perhaps? So again in rugby terms, a tour of a containment or rugby region mean to play tests or non-tests in that particular continent or rugby region.
The IRB (like FIFA) arranges the world into separate rugby regions; CAR (Africa), NACRA (North America), CONSUR (South America), ARFU (Asia), FIRA-AER (Europe) and FORU (Oceania, sometimes known as Australasia).
In reference to Irelands tour to North America, this means Ireland will play teams or nations in North America. In reference to Scotland tour to Australasia, this means Scotland will play teams or nations in Australasia.
Basically what I mean, I a team is playing one team on tour I.E Welsh tour to Japan, you can use to in the tour. If a team is playing more than one team in a region I.E Irish tour of North America you can use of Rugby.change (talk) 23:48, 18 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Is English your first language? You have totally missed the point of my comments above. --hippo43 (talk) 23:52, 20 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I take offence to that! Rugby.change (talk) 23:54, 20 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Why? I asked if English was your first language as a serious question. You obviously didn't understand what I wrote above and your understanding of 'tours of' vs 'tours to' is flawed. Some of your contributions aren't very well written in terms of vocabulary and grammar. Please take it as a compliment - for a non-native English speaker your English is really very good. --hippo43 (talk) 00:13, 21 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

If you don't want to discuss edits with users then maybe a collaborative project isn't for you. You had an opportunity to discuss the flags issue on the talk page – I waited several days for people to comment, and now you've reverted my changes within hours! I made the changes in line with policy (read MOS:FLAGS) and even said in the edit summary "please discuss rather than revert". Maybe read the discussion at Talk:2013 British and Irish Lions tour to Australia#Flags, and if you think I've misinterpreted policy say so (and why). - Shudde talk 09:40, 22 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Aside from the appalling choice of name for this template, I can find no actual use for it and I have removed it from the end-of-year and mid-year rugby union test articles. Since there is literally no use for it and you are the only one to have made edits to the template itself, I suggest you apply {{db-g7}} to it. – PeeJay 01:22, 23 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Talk page history

[edit]

Noticed that User:Aliwal2012 reverted your deletion of your talk page history and asked you not to delete that history. That's not right - it's entirely up to you to delete stuff from your talk page - per WP:User_talk_page#User_talk_pages "Users may freely remove comments from their own talk pages" it goes on to say - "though archiving is preferred". It's good practice to make an archive, which you can do by creating a page called User talk:Rugby.change/archive, and then copy what you don't want to that archive. You can then link it by using a template called {{archivebox}} if you look at my talk page User talk:Bcp67 you can see how its done. Hope this helps a bit. --Bcp67 (talk) 20:55, 26 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

New Zealand national rugby union team

[edit]

I know I've asked this before, but can you please discuss formatting changes such as at New Zealand national rugby union team -- where you have omitted provinces from the squad again, despite the message talk:New Zealand national rugby union team#Current squad -- before you make them? You seem to have a habit of making changes without thinking whether it'd be better to discuss them first. Last thing - please don't use Wikipedia:Embedded citations. They're never a good idea. I've seen you replace full citations with embedded links in Australia national rugby union team. Why you'd do that I can't imagine, but it's especially important for the New Zealand article because it's a Featured Article. I'd rather not risk it being demoted because of sloppy referencing. If you have any queries on New Zealand national rugby union team, then please use the talk page -- that's what it is there for. -- Shudde talk 23:02, 12 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

In the future use the article talk page, and if you want my input ping my talkpage with a note saying there is a discussion going on somewhere else. Doing that enables a open/transparent discussion among whomever is interested in the article. It's generally bad form to have content discussions on user talk pagers rather than the article talkpage. Anyhow: just because other countries do one thing does not mean it's the best for the New Zealand article. Players in NZ are contracted to both Super Rugby and provincial sides. The All Blacks themselves list players as affiliated to both (see Squad announcement). As for the coach. We have the head coach listed in the infobox and the "Coaches" section (not the "Players" section!). We don't need to list the same information three/four times in one article. Why should the caps update be in bold at the top? The main reason this section exists is to list the players in the squad. All the other information isn't as important, their age, position, caps etc. - Shudde talk 23:41, 12 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Article titles and section headings

[edit]

Hey. I've been meaning to point this out. You are probably unaware of this, but there are some policies on how to format article titles and section headings. There is a detailed article at Wikipedia:Article titles, but there is only really one thing I want to mention. At Wikipedia:Manual of Style#Article titles it emphasises a few points including:

Use "sentence case", not "title case"; that is, the initial letter of a title is capitalized (except in rare cases, such as eBay), but otherwise, capital letters are used only where they would be used in a normal sentence (Funding of UNESCO projects, not Funding of UNESCO Projects). – Italics added by me.

These rules also apply to section headings. So for example, rather than Individual Records, a section title would be Individual records. Or rather than World Cup Record, we would say World Cup record. I say this because you edit so many articles, so if you spot any incorrectly formatted section headings, would you mind correcting them? Someone will have to correct them eventually, and as you edit so much, I was hoping you'd be able to correct the formatting as you go? Thanks. There is quite a lot of detail at the policy pages I linked to above, but if you have any questions feel free to ping me. -- Shudde talk 04:36, 11 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Any reason why you're changing proper inline citations to embedded links, which should be avoided? TheMightyPeanut (talk) 20:38, 15 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Having it like the way you have put it like, is to show a reference to something or a source to back a piece of information. Edit like the way I put it, is a lot better way of linking a match report to an article. On that note, a match report should be used, rather than match statistics. Or have both of them, like the edit I did. Like every other sporting article on Wikipedia. Rugby.change (talk) 22:11, 15 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Please read WP:CITE#Avoid embedded links. While they were previously used, it's now a Wikipedia guideline that they should be avoided. So feel free to update those other articles as you see them. TheMightyPeanut (talk)
Also, there's additional reading matter at WP:BAREURL re this. Thanks, TheMightyPeanut (talk) 22:44, 15 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]
NOTE: it says its not recommended to do it like Report, not must not do it like that. Rugby.change (talk) 00:35, 16 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]
"Embedded links to external websites should not be used as a form of inline citation"
"Most importantly, do not add bare URLs to articles—always create full citations with title, author, date, publisher, etc."
"Wikipedia articles may include links to web pages outside Wikipedia (external links), but they should not normally be used in the body of an article.". TheMightyPeanut (talk) 00:40, 16 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry, what last quote quote is from WP:EL. Before you query "should not normally be used", please refer to WP:ELYES. As for your argument above – Wikipedia guidelines state a best practise. For some reason, you choose to go against Wikipedia's best prescribed practise (in fact, you're changing something from the recommended way of doing things to one that is not). Why? 2014 National Rugby Championship

[edit]

Hi Rugby.change,

Regarding changes made to the 2014 National Rugby Championship article:

  • Switching the line-up order from 1–23 to 15–1;16-23 – I have left as standing;
  • Making the team line-ups no longer collapsed – left as standing;
  • Moving Kevin Foote to the line below David Wessels – also left as standing.

However,

Referencing

[edit]

I know we (and others) have had conversations along these lines with you before (see User talk:Rugby.change#New Zealand national rugby union team and User talk:Rugby.change#Embedded links) but can you please ensure that when you add references they conform to WP:CITEVAR?

That means you'll need to format the references in the same manner as the style currently used in the article (which is going to be more than just an embedded link). See WP:CITE which states Each article should use one citation method or style throughout; if an article already has citations, preserve consistency by using that method or seek consensus on the talk page before changing it.

For New Zealand national rugby union team and most other articles you edit this is going to mean using a citation template such as {{cite web}} and {{cite news}}. How to do this can be found at Wikipedia:Citing sources/Example edits for different methods and Wikipedia:Citation templates.

Embedded links are a terrible idea in any case (please read Wikipedia:Citing sources), but using them in articles that adhere to a different citation style is actually a breach of the project's content guidelines. People shouldn't have to come and clean up your edits because you can't or won't use a style consistent with the article -- Shudde talk 05:54, 2 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Having seen this edit ([1]) -- I have to ask, did you not read my message, not understand it, or are you ignoring it? It's really not okay to edit in such a way that other contributors are expected to clean up after you. I'm happy to help explain how citation templates work, but you have been editing for a while now, and your inability to reference according to our standards after all this time does have me wondering why? Like I said I'm willing to help. -- Shudde talk 09:25, 6 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I see you've made something of an effort to actually reference appropriately. But you're still doing half a job. A publisher or work parameter (or both) is needed for a reference. Just having a title and access date doesn't tell the reader the source. I'll also ask you not to misrepresent sources such as your edits to New Zealand national rugby union team; stating that a player is playing for a team or club they've never played for (but have only signed for) is pointless, probably a violation of WP:CRYSTAL and misleading. You seem to be obsessed with updating stats and cruft, but you take little care to reference properly and actually represent sources accurately. -- Shudde talk 07:02, 31 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Stop listing players as playing for teams they've not yet played for. You're reporting an anticipated even as if it's actually happened. Why you feel the need to do this is beyond me. I know you don't like to actually engage in talk page discussion about nearly anything (but instead just go on doing whatever you feel like), but you've been adding unsourced misleading information on living people. Discuss it first. -- Shudde talk 23:30, 31 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Bonus points in 2015 Rugby World Cup

[edit]

You have had quite a bit to do with this article and its associated templates so I'm placing this note here. I noted that, according to 2015 Rugby World Cup, S. Africa were awarded two bonus points for losing by two points in their match against Japan, but according to the article one bonus point is awarded to a team which loses by seven points or fewer (not two). Some clarification might be needed. Also it took quite a while after the template for pool C was updated until the article reflected the change. I wasn't aware of this kind of delay in Wikipedia before today. Someone else has made a similar comment on the talk page. Jodosma (talk) 20:29, 19 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Jodosma South Africa was awarded 2 bonus points 1. because they lost by fewer than 7 points 2. because they scored 4 tries.
Bonus points are awarded if a team loses by 7 points or less, and or if the team scores 4 tries or more. A try bonus point is rewarded regardless of the final result, IE win or lose. Rugby.change (talk) 20:43, 19 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, I should have looked closer, didn't realise that S. Africa had scored four tries and lost! Jodosma (talk) 21:35, 19 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Constant edits on 2015 Rugby World Cup key and table.

[edit]

Your edits are far to detailed for viewers/readers. You can simply-fly so many constant editing by leaving it alone to its current look. This key and pool table had been created like its current structure and does not need to look more complicated. Readers are quite capable reading it like it is. I don't need anymore pointless complaints.

England v Wales

[edit]

Hi, would you be able to do something on the History of rugby union matches between England and Wales article? Wales equalled their record away score, 28 points, so the records table needs updating to show both games, but I am not sure how to do it myself - can you sort it out? Thanks, --Bcp67 (talk) 08:56, 10 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for looking at that, but I was thinking that both the 1908 and 2015 games should be shown, as it is a joint record. --Bcp67 (talk) 14:28, 10 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Bcp67 It's noted that date shown in brackets indicates when the record was or last set. Rugby.change (talk) 14:31, 10 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]
A record is a record, it's not just the last one set. Wales have twice scored 28 points away v England, so they both need to be shown. --Bcp67 (talk) 14:41, 10 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Edinburgh Rugby European Challenge Cup Attendances

[edit]

Hi Rugby.change I have seen you have been doing some really good work on the rugby pages such as European Cups. I had a query about how you worked out Edinburgh's attendances as I use my own spreadsheet for European and domestic rugby union games? You have Edinburgh's % capacity in the 40s while I have 54%. This is how I worked it out:

12,464 5,326 43% 12,464 4,055 33% 5,500 5,235 95% 12,464 5,489 44%

I was basing Murrayfield capacity based on having just the first tier open (12,464) instead of the whole stadium as this is what it states at the top of the wiki page. I am not sure if they opened the whole stadium for the La Rochelle game but it makes it quite confusing if some teams are just opening 1 tier of a massive stadium. What do you think? British & Irish Lions v Argentina, Twickenham 2005

Why are you deleting the information for this game without the courtesy of referring the matter ? The match certainly took place because I was present and received full international status in 2007. I'd be interested in your reasons for it's deletion sir. Dorkinglad (talk) 13:26, 16 July 2017 (UTC)talk[reply]

RWC coaching staff lists

[edit]

Where have you ever seen teams' coaching staff listed like this? The squad refers to the playing squad, the coaches are just part of the backroom staff and are - for the most part - not notable. – PeeJay 07:02, 30 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I apologise, I misspoke. Of course the coaches may be notable, but I don't believe their notability has any bearing on whether or not we list them in that article. I have never seen a team's entire coaching staff listed like that, especially in an article whose context is to inform readers of the players that were selected by each nation. Being hired by a national team is not relevant in the same way that being called up as a player is, since coaches are not called up on a squad-by-squad basis; sure, a head coach can fire his staff each tournament, but it just doesn't happen. But my opinion is beside the point, since I have never seen coaching staffs listed this way for major tournaments. The head coach should be sufficient for each team, nothing more. – PeeJay 20:50, 30 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there @Rugby.change:, I reverted your change on 2017–18 Pro14. Wikipedia requires verifiability, and verifiability requires inline citations. Embedded links should not be used, because they are highly susceptible to link rot. Basically, if you stick in an external link to the Pro14 site, and they redesign their site, resulting in URLs being changed, there is nothing in embedded links that can be used to restore these links. TheMightyPeanut (talk) 05:07, 8 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Rugby.change, I posted a suggestion on the talk page for the All-Blacks, but things seem rather slow there. I saw you made some edits recently, would you mind taking a look? I'm trying to add an image of one of the jerseys to the Jersey section, but I'm refraining due to a paid COI.--FacultiesIntact (talk) 01:48, 16 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Average Capacity European Cup Rugby

[edit]

Rugby.change,

Hi. Really enjoy your edits for the European Rugby pages - they look great. I also do quite a bit of editing on the rugby union pages - most tier 2-4 English leagues - but also do some on the European rugby pages as well. With regards to average capacity I have a series of spreadsheets which I update each week for all of the European and English rugby competitions, including capacity dependent on different grounds. These spreadsheets take into account knock-out stages and do not impact on whether a club has qualified or not - I simply add the details to the spreadsheets. With this in mind I can add the capacity % without it interfering with the later stages. If you have any thoughts please let me know on my talk page. Thanks and keep up the good work. Jgjsmith006 (talk) 13:00, 15 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your response. It is quite easy to add the home quarter final fixtures on my spreadsheet as I can copy and paste the details including the necessary formulas. There is more of a gray area in the semi-finals where neutral venues may not be as neutral as they seem. For instance if Munster have a 'home' game at the Aviva Stadium in Dublin in the semis, does that count towards their attendance, if they are playing for example, a French club? 2018 Ireland rugby union tour of Australia

[edit]

Hi @Rugby.change:, hope you are well? Please could you explain the changes you made recently on 2018 Ireland rugby union tour of Australia, as there was no explanation for the changes, and I would like to understand why the changes were necessary, as they didn't appear to be so to me? I look forward to your reply, kind regards, MunsterFan2011 (talk) 06:09, 7 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I should add, thank you for adding the rest of the Australia coaches, it's been bugging me trying to find out! Was the reason for removing the team line-up templates for tests because we shouldn't add such templates until the teams have been named, as I could understand that? Hi rugby.change, it is considered bad practice to do such a large edit on an article such as 2019 Rugby World Cup squads particularly unsourced or controversial changes. If you want to discuss what clubs should be recorded next to players or when/whether to use flags please use the talk page so discussion can take place and a consensus reached. Overall fantastic work but multiple small edits make it easier for people to see changes and revert minor mistakes or minor changes.Skeene88 (talk) 09:16, 29 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

2019 Rugby World Cup prose

[edit]

May I ask what was wrong with the prose for the group review so that you moved it to its specific pool articles. This is because with it currently going on it would be easier to get those references and summarize that particular group than looking for resources for a previous World Cup without taking a decent amount of time to get those resources needed to write the article. In the future, if me or someone else wanted to nominate the article for GA at least it would have a decent amount to work off towards getting that because of right now it probably would fail criteria 3 (as well criteria 5 but mainly because it's not complete yet). You could of easily mentioned that you were going to do that in the talk page but I see no evidence of that either.

If you are going to a summary of the group stage than that is fine, but for now it just seems out of place to remove it without anyone else commenting on it. HawkAussie (talk) 04:48, 17 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Test status of Japan match for the Lions

[edit]

Hi there mate, just thought I'd clarify a couple of edits I've made. The Lions Japan match isn't currently classified as a test for the Lions currently (it is for Japan and they've awarded caps) due to some policy involving the 1888 Club having to classify the status of the match (as it isn't a usual one of the three tests) and they're not meeting until later this year. Therefore test caps haven't been awarded by the Lions for it as of yet, but they may well do once the 1888 Club meet. Players will have been issued a Lions number though. Regards. An article you recently created, 2023 Rugby World Cup – play-off qualifications, is not suitable as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) 2027 Men's Rugby World Cup – Europe qualification

[edit]

Please stop adding this page, there is no need of this. It's doubling REC 2025 page. In previous years there was two-year qualification, and this was reason to make separate page with two-year combined group and fixtures. Not qualification lasts only for one year, one season. So qualification page became double of REC page. So there is no need of two pages. Lado85 (talk) 11:58, 5 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
