Article of the Month Article of the month George Frederick Handel George Frederick Handel was born in 1685 in Halle (Saale) and was a German composer of Baroque music. He earned great renown particularly for his numerous operas. He spent the bulk of his career in London and his major works include around 40 operas and 25 oratorios, not least the Messiah. Handel left behind compositions in all the musical genres of his time.
