Image size

[edit]

The link Consideration of image download size takes you to the Wikipedia:Images page, but there is nothing there about image size considerations. This is an important topic. EEye (talk) 12:36, 20 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

The current / "Latest" revision (at this time)

[edit]

These comments are based on (and therefore, 'in a sense', they are about) the "Latest revision as of 00:22, 25 December 2019" version of the "Help:" page 'Help:Files.

What is wrong

[edit]

The last part of the third sentence of the "Uploading files" section of [that version of] that "Help:" page, [consists of a wikilink that] says:

Wikimedia Commons

; but I think that the word (or 'name') "main" in that wikilink is wrong. I think it should (instead) be the word (or 'name') "Main_Page".

[edit]

Given the wikitext that is shown in a "<blockquote>'d" QUOTE above, the hyperlink now points to the URL "https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Main" ... which is [the URL of] a Commons page that is about a river in Germany.

(partial quote: << "The Main is a river in Germany, 524 km in length, and one of the more voluminous tributaries of the Rhine river. It flows through the states of Bavaria and Hesse. The largest city on the Main is Frankfurt [am Main]." >>).
[edit]

I suggest that someone should change the wikitext that is shown in a "blockquote'd" QUOTE above

 • from Wikimedia Commons
 • to Wikimedia Commons

which IMHO would solve the problem. If this change or "edit" [idea] were to be implemented, then -- according to my understanding of this stuff -- (and please enlighten me, if I am wrong!) -- then the hyperlink would point to the URL "https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Main_Page" ... which is [the URL of] a Commons page that is the "Main Page" for Wikimedia Commons. (right?) IMHO that is probably the intended Commons [web] page that the last two words of that sentence "should" link to.

Any comments? (before the editing begins?)

[edit]

(right?) (... or not?) Comments are welcome. --Mike Schwartz (talk) 02:09, 28 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Resolved: Case Closed

[edit]

A certain EDIT was done -- (...and here is a link to the DIFF listing for that edit) -- to "FIX" the problem.

Comments are still welcome... but I do not expect any.
("hence", ... let's just call it << resolved / case closed >> -- !--)

If you want a caption to display, include the "thumb" keyword. See Wikipedia:Extended image syntax for full details.

Should Files have talk pages created?

[edit]

Most Files I find do not have talk pages associated. In cases where a discussion is opened I can understand it's useful, but should I create a talk page beforehand? For example to add WikiProjects? Shushugah (he/him • talk) 18:43, 27 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
