[edit]Let me go buy a basketball hoop with glass so I can shatter it for a Wikipedia photo. That's totally safe and not wasteful. Also, have to find someone who can dunk hard enough to break it... or I might just skip all of that and draw one in Microsoft Paint. ~WikiOriginal-9~ (talk) 06:29, 6 December 2024 (UTC)

- @WikiOriginal-9: Yup, thanks for the laugh. It's fair use of the image, but unfair use of the application of the rules, the irony… Thank goodness I stopped caring much about it some time ago. Left guide (talk) 13:23, 6 December 2024 (UTC)
- I know, a lot of rules on Wikipedia are kind of contradictory. ~WikiOriginal-9~ (talk) 13:29, 6 December 2024 (UTC)
- Is it the rules, or how the herd decides to apply them? —Bagumba (talk) 13:34, 6 December 2024 (UTC)

- @WikiOriginal-9: It didn't dawn on me until now (after looking at another FFD) that your "moot" comment was referring to WP:NFCCP #2's "Respect for commercial opportunities" not being an issue because the owner allowed reuse, even if not commercial. Yeah, I don't hang out in those parts too much. Now go buy the rights. —Bagumba (talk) 09:31, 15 December 2024 (UTC)
Cleaning up NBA rivalry redirects (deletion possibly needed)
[edit]Hi Bagumba, so I went through this page of redirects to List of NBA rivalries, and retargeted several to their respective valid standalone articles. However, many of those redirects refer to a matchup for which there is no article, and the rivalry list page only shows those for which there is an article, so for readers those redirects are misleading at worst, and useless at best. What can/should be done about those remaining team-specific redirects? Would it be appropriate for you to delete them? Left guide (talk) 13:43, 8 December 2024 (UTC)
- If it's necessary to invoke a CSD criteria to justify deleting, WP:G8 might apply, along with its related template {{Db-redirnone}}. Just thought of asking you directly since it's less red tape. Left guide (talk) 04:38, 9 December 2024 (UTC)
- @Left guide: Yes, it's not helpful to redirect to a page without relevant content. If the target doesn't make sense, and there's no alternative targets, consider WP:RFD. There's WP:RFD#DELETE #5:
The redirect makes no sense, such as redirecting "Apple" to "Orange". (Speedy deletion criterion G1 may apply.)
CSD G1 seems borderline to me compared to Apple–Orange, if you choose that route (certainly more lightweight), so I'll leave it to another admin to jusge, as I'm not a CSD regular. Good luck.—Bagumba (talk) 08:48, 9 December 2024 (UTC)- Ok. From a cursory check, most of those now-senseless redirects appear to have been created around 2010-11, when the main NBA rivalries page was very different in scope. When I examined the page history, I noticed that you made this major change in 2017 (which I agree with) citing a silent consensus from the NBA project. So those redirects were reasonable prior to that, but no longer. Left guide (talk) 09:13, 9 December 2024 (UTC)
- @Left guide: Ah, another reason for me to stay out of deleting it. —Bagumba (talk) 09:21, 9 December 2024 (UTC)

- @Left guide: Some background is at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Sports/Handling sports transactions § RfC on inclusion of reported but not official sports deals. I'm involved, so consider WP:ANEW if you think it's an issue.—Bagumba (talk) 05:33, 11 December 2024 (UTC)

DYK for John Moore (basketball)
[edit]On 13 December 2024, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article John Moore (basketball), which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that John Moore's mother, after learning that UCLA's student-body president was Black, said "this is where he's going to school"? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/John Moore (basketball). You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, John Moore (basketball)), and the hook may be added to the statistics page after its run on the Main Page has completed. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

- @HundenvonPenang: Thanks for contacting me. However, I usually prefer talk page discussion over email, unless it is extremenely sensitive. For my personal time management, I typically don't get much involved in subject areas I'm not very familiar with. I would suggest following up at the approproiate WikiProject or noticeboard, with a reference to the previous discussion(s) and a brief update on the recent occureneces which you feel require followup. Best of luck.—Bagumba (talk) 09:11, 15 December 2024 (UTC)
