[edit]Hi. The Wall Street Journal is effectively subscriber-only. Get some 'free' articles but not for a month like other media, it's for a much longer time. Haven't been able to read WSJ since late August. Don't have idea when (or if, unlikely) they'll let me in again. Anyway, added second reference to Turkey story. 2016 Nevada wildfire
[edit]Once a speedy deletion tag is placed on an article such as 2016 Nevada wildfire, it should not be replaced. Instead, WP:PROD or WP:AFD may be used to discuss the article further. --Jax 0677 (talk) 20:12, 7 August 2016 (UTC)
List of California wildfires & Bluecut Fire
[edit]Heyo! Thanks for adding the Bluecut Fire to the list. I made one change to your addition. I trimmed down the notes dramatically. While I do feel that what you added is of great significance, I feel strongly that it belongs on the article page for the fire itself, not in the notes field. At the moment a "unknown number of structures have been destroyed" according to InciWeb. Once they (or someone else) release good solid number, that should absolutely be included in the table. But specific structures I don't think should go in the list. Otherwise that table is going to blow up! Does that make sense? Let me know your thoughts. Keep up the great work! --Zackmann08 (Talk to me/What I been doing) 16:34, 17 August 2016 (UTC)
Possible copyright violation(s)
[edit]Your contributions are appreciated. You are very welcome here. However, I have encountered possible copyright violation(s). Some or all of the content you added in a recent edit to 2016 clown sightings in this edit(s) appears to have been copy pasted from this source and has been removed.
Please remember that you must write in your own words. We cannot copy and paste from other websites. If I have made an error, please accept my apologies.
For further information, please read Wikipedia:Copyright violations. If you have questions, please ask. Best wishes, Anna Frodesiak (talk) 02:17, 9 October 2016 (UTC)

Follow-up
[edit]I must say that I am disappointed that you just ignored my request for some sort of explanation and instead just carried on editing. I spent half an hour finding and removing your copy pasting. No "I'm sorry". No "Thanks for cleaning up my blatant copyvios". Nothing. Did you even review your own contribs to see if I missed anything?
I would appreciate at least some some assurance that none of your Reuters-sourced Portal:Current events additions were copy pasted. Anna Frodesiak (talk) 17:28, 9 October 2016 (UTC)
- Hi there, Anna. I apologize for the lack of response, I would of done this earlier but I had family things going.
- As for my copyright violations. Yes, I can see how I definitely should of checked before hand before making those edits. Especially the one on 2016 clown sightings. As you can see by my contribs, I went back and put up the same story, but this time without the violations. As for my edits in general, I believe my copyright violations are only on some particular articles I have created and edited on, such as the ones you highlighted. My edits on Portal:Current events (going back to 2014) are usually quite brief. I've checked through the last couple of months and I haven't seen any obvious copyright violations.
- I'll try to be more careful in the future. Thanks Anna. GWA88 (talk) 19:24, 9 October 2016 (UTC)
- Alright. Are you sure there are no more?
- Please, from now on, no more copy pasting. You know how seriously Wikipedia takes this sort of thing. It is really breaking the cardinal rule, and you must have known that. Anna Frodesiak (talk) 00:18, 10 October 2016 (UTC)
- I've now looked through more contribs and I can't see any. I honestly didn't realize I was doing it. I thought you were allowed to copy-paste the odd sentence from a news article. My bad. Again, I'll take this lesson into consideration when I make future edits. GWA88 (talk) 00:27, 10 October 2016 (UTC)
- Thanks for checking and thanks for your understanding. Best wishes and happy editing. Oh, and keep up the good work at current events. I know you do a lot there. Cheers, Anna Frodesiak (talk) 01:08, 10 October 2016 (UTC)

Yemen/Houthis
[edit]GWA88. Thanks for the information and for correcting the Portal:Current events/2016 October 14 entry. Fixed Portal:Current events/2016 October 16 using Yemini Crisis. Revert
[edit]Can I ask why did you revert my edit on the Current Events box for the Haiti bus crash, it was obviously a double entry - best case would be moving it from disasters to crime, but you simply reverted? Skycycle (talk) 16:14, 13 March 2017 (UTC)
- Yes, it was clearly a case of double entry but you removed the former entry, not the latter made by Capitalistroadster, which included far less details of the incident than the previous entry made by myself. Clearly Capitalistroadster failed to notice it was already included, it happens, I've done it before a few times, and you didn't bother to look at the portal's history to see which one was included first. See: https://wiki.eso.workers.dev/w/index.php?title=Portal:Current_events/2017_March_12&oldid=769962721

Invitation to WikiProject Portals
[edit]The Portals WikiProject has been rebooted.
You are invited to join, and participate in the effort to revitalize and improve the Portal system and all the portals in it.
There are sections on the WikiProject page dedicated to tasks (including WikiGnome tasks too), and areas on the talk page for discussing the improvement and automation of the various features of portals.
Many complaints have been lodged in the RfC to delete all portals, pointing out their various problems. They say that many portals are not maintained, or have fallen out of date, are useless, etc. Many of the !votes indicate that the editors who posted them simply don't believe in the potential of portals anymore.
It's time to change all that. Let's give them reasons to believe in portals, by revitalizing them.
The best response to a deletion nomination is to fix the page that was nominated. The further underway the effort is to improve portals by the time the RfC has run its course, the more of the reasons against portals will no longer apply. RfCs typically run 30 days. There are 19 days left in this one. Let's see how many portals we can update and improve before the RfC is closed, and beyond.
A healthy WikiProject dedicated to supporting and maintaining portals may be the strongest argument of all not to delete.
We may even surprise ourselves and exceed all expectations. Who knows what we will be able to accomplish in what may become the biggest Wikicollaboration in years.
Let's do this.
See ya at the WikiProject!
Sincerely, — The Transhumanist 10:21, 21 April 2018 (UTC)
Thank you very much
[edit]The RfC discussion to eliminate portals was closed May 12, with the statement "There exists a strong consensus against deleting or even deprecating portals at this time." This was made possible because you and others came to the rescue. Thank you for speaking up.
By the way, the current issue of the Signpost features an article with interviews about the RfC and the Portals WikiProject.
I'd also like to let you know that the Portals WikiProject is working hard to make sure your support of portals was not in vain. Toward that end, we have been working diligently to innovate portals, while building, updating, upgrading, and maintaining them. The project has grown to 80 members so far, and has become a beehive of activity.
Our two main goals at this time are to automate portals (in terms of refreshing, rotating, and selecting content), and to develop a one-page model in order to make obsolete and eliminate most of the 150,000 subpages from the portal namespace by migrating their functions to the portal base pages, using technologies such as selective transclusion. Please feel free to join in on any of the many threads of development at the WikiProject's talk page, or just stop by to see how we are doing. If you have any questions about portals or portal development, that is the best place to ask them.
If you would like to keep abreast of developments on portals, keep in mind that the project's members receive updates on their talk pages. The updates are also posted here, for your convenience.
Again, we can't thank you enough for your support of portals, and we hope to make you proud of your decision. Sincerely, — The Transhumanist 10:49, 25 May 2018 (UTC)

The article Gatwick Airport drone incident has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. ...William, is the complaint department really on the roof? 21:09, 20 December 2018 (UTC)

Alert from WikiProject Current Events
[edit]Hello. The Wikipedia:WikiProject Current events format is currently being updated. However, one new change is a section for "Current discussions". The Portal:Current events has debates all the time to determine if things are notable for the portal (international news) or if they are better suited for a place like 2020 in the United States. In the past, small 'edit wars' have taken place between editors over topics. This new section on the WikiProject is a new place where editors can discuss between each other and have an easy access to 'outside opinion' from other participates. Members in the Current Event WikiProject are welcome to invite other editors that have disagreements to start the discussion on the WikiProject. (Unlike RFC's, discussions about topics would be about 1 week or whenever the topic is no longer relevant from the WikiProject).
Thank you for reading and thank you for participating in the Current Event WikiProject! (Current Event WikiProject Coordinator) Elijahandskip (talk) 19:13, 11 November 2020 (UTC)

Biden's cabinet
[edit]Before entering into a possible avoidable dispute, I will give you my opinion about the latest editions in Current Events and see what we can do. I understand that the importance of the post-Trump cabinet of the United States is recognized and everyone has followed the nominations. But is it really necessary that every confirmation has to be posted? I could come to understand Lloyd Austin's, and even Deb Haaland's, but personally I don't think this is the place to post something that implies that it looks more like a timeline of the early days of the Biden presidency. And the same is my opinion about the Trump edits, but at the time he was not very active. I do not know what is the line that Wikipedia follows in this regard, so if you know I will be happy for you to explain it to me. A greeting. Alsoriano97 (talk) 21:58, 22 January 2021 (UTC)
- Good evening, Alsoriano97. Firstly, I appreciate you leaving this message for me rather than just reverting me for another pointless edit war, so thanks for that. Regarding the confirmations of Biden's cabinet picks, I would say, and this is based on the fact most if not all of Trump's cabinet picks were covered on the portal, and the fact the confirmations often gain international coverage, for example the Lloyd Austin confirmation which you removed, was covered by the The Guardian, it has also been covered by the Financial Times and Al Jazeera. Again, clearly notable. I would of course draw the line at senior cabinet members, lower level administration officials would be definitely pushing it in terms of notability. Speedy deletion nomination of Category:Journalists killed in Venezuela
[edit]A tag has been placed on Category:Journalists killed in Venezuela requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section C1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the category has been empty for seven days or more and is not a disambiguation category, a category redirect, a featured topics category, under discussion at Categories for discussion, or a project category that by its nature may become empty on occasion.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Liz Read! [edit]Hey. I know we have crossed paths every now and then on the Portal:Current events, so I wanted to invite you to a new WikiProject, the WikiProject of the Twenty-Tens decade. It was proposed near the end of May, but it was officially created today. Not sure if you would be interested, but I thought I would drop you an invite and say hi. Hello GWA88. I reverted your edit because the satellite might not have crashed in Kyiv at all. It is very unlikely that the green explosion observed over Kyiv was the satellite, and we should probably wait for more reliable reports. More evidence is needed before it can be determined if the satellite fell in Kyiv for sure. — Nythar (💬-🍀) 22:28, 19 April 2023 (UTC)
- Don't worry, I know your revert was a good faith edit. However, The Guardian is now reporting it is the NASA spacecraft Reuven Ramaty High Energy Solar Spectroscopic Imager (RHESSI).[1] GWA88 (talk) 22:38, 19 April 2023 (UTC)
- True, The Guardian did report that; however, NASA has now denied that the object over Kyiv was its satellite. BBC News Nythar (💬-🍀) 02:21, 20 April 2023 (UTC)
- I stand corrected. GWA88 (talk) 13:06, 22 April 2023 (UTC)

New page reviewer granted
[edit]Hi GWA88. Your account has been added to the "New page reviewers
" user group. Please check back at the permissions page in case your user right is time-limited or probationary. This user group allows you to review new pages through the Curation system and mark them as patrolled, tag them for maintenance issues, or nominate them for deletion. The list of articles awaiting review is located at the New Pages Feed. New page reviewing is vital to maintaining the integrity of the encyclopedia. If you have not already done so, you must read the tutorial at New Pages Review, the linked guides and essays, and fully understand the deletion policy. If you need any help or want to discuss the process, you are welcome to use the new page reviewer talk page or ask via the NPP Discord. In addition, please remember:
- Be nice to new editors. They are usually not aware that they are doing anything wrong. Do make use of the message feature when tagging pages for maintenance so that they are aware.
- You will frequently be asked by users to explain why their page is being deleted. Please be formal and polite in your approach to them – even if they are not.
- If you are not sure what to do with a page, don't review it – just leave it for another reviewer.
- Accuracy is more important than speed. Take your time to patrol each page, including checking for copyright violations using Earwig's copyright violation detector, checking for duplicate articles, and evaluating sources (both in the article, and if needed, via a Google search) for compliance with the general notability guideline.
- Please review some of our flowcharts (1, 2) to help ensure you don't forget any steps.
The reviewer right does not change your status or how you can edit articles. If you no longer want this user right, you also may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. In cases of abuse or persistent inaccuracy of reviewing, or long-term inactivity, the right may be withdrawn at administrator discretion. If you can read any languages other than English, please add yourself to the list of new page reviewers with language proficiencies. Hey man im josh (talk) 14:14, 8 March 2024 (UTC)
- Awesome! I look forward to contributing to help clear the backlog. I'll be sure to read over deletion policy and reviewer talk page. Thanks! GWA88 (talk) 21:02, 8 March 2024 (UTC)

New Pages Patrol newsletter April 2024
[edit]Hello GWA88,
Backlog update: The October drive reduced the article backlog from 11,626 to 7,609 and the redirect backlog from 16,985 to 6,431! Congratulations to Schminnte, who led with over 2,300 points.
Following that, New Page Patrol organized another backlog drive for articles in January 2024. The January drive started with 13,650 articles and reduced the backlog to 7,430 articles. Congratulations to JTtheOG, who achieved first place with 1,340 points in this drive.
Looking at the graph, it seems like backlog drives are one of the only things keeping the backlog under control. Another backlog drive is being planned for May. Feel free to participate in the May backlog drive planning discussion.
It's worth noting that both queues are gradually increasing again and are nearing 14,034 articles and 22,540 redirects. We encourage you to keep contributing, even if it's just a single patrol per day. Your support is greatly appreciated!
2023 Awards
Onel5969 won the 2023 cup with 17,761 article reviews last year - that's an average of nearly 50/day. There was one Platinum Award (10,000+ reviews), 2 Gold Awards (5000+ reviews), 6 Silver (2000+), 8 Bronze (1000+), 30 Iron (360+) and 70 more for the 100+ barnstar. Hey man im josh led on redirect reviews by clearing 36,175 of them. For the full details, see the Awards page and the Hall of Fame. Congratulations everyone for their efforts in reviewing!
WMF work on PageTriage: The WMF Moderator Tools team and volunteer software developers deployed the rewritten NewPagesFeed in October, and then gave the NewPagesFeed a slight visual facelift in November. This concludes most major work to Special:NewPagesFeed, and most major work by the WMF Moderator Tools team, who wrapped up their major work on PageTriage in October. The WMF Moderator Tools team and volunteer software developers will continue small work on PageTriage as time permits.
Recruitment: A couple of the coordinators have been inviting editors to become reviewers, via mass-messages to their talk pages. If you know someone who you'd think would make a good reviewer, then a personal invitation to them would be great. Additionally, if there are Wikiprojects that you are active on, then you can add a post there asking participants to join NPP. Please be careful not to double invite folks that have already been invited.
Reviewing tip: Reviewers who prefer to patrol new pages within their most familiar subjects can use the regularly updated NPP Browser tool.
Reminders:
- You can access live chat with patrollers on the New Pages Patrol Discord.
- Consider adding the project discussion page to your watchlist.
- To opt out of future mailings, please remove yourself here.

New page reviewer granted
[edit]Hi GWA88, I just wanted to let you know that I have added the new page reviewer user right to your account. This means you now have access to the page curation tools and can start patrolling pages from the new pages feed. If you asked for this at requests for permissions, please check back there to see if your access is time-limited or if there are other comments.
This is a good time to re-acquaint yourself with the guidance at Wikipedia:New pages patrol. Before you get started, please take the time to:
- Add Wikipedia talk:New pages patrol/Reviewers to your watchlist to follow NPP-related discussions
- If you use Twinkle, configure it to log your CSDs and PRODs
- If you can read any languages other than English, add yourself to the list of reviewers with language proficiencies
You can find a list of other useful links and tools for patrollers at Wikipedia:New pages patrol/Resources. If you are ever unsure what to do, ask your fellow patrollers or just leave the page for someone else to review – you're not alone! Hey man im josh (talk) 13:18, 2 May 2024 (UTC)

Re: this edit while I certainly agree that this is a goal of Israel, and they've conducted strikes in pursuit of that goal, I'm not aware of sufficient evidence that would suggest that they've successfully accomplished that goal at this time. There's not a comprehensive BDA that I'm aware of that states conclusively that Syria's strategic weapons were actually destroyed. I'm sure we'll get there eventually, but it seems premature at the moment, and perhaps this needs to be reworded to account for the lack of certainty here? ⇒SWATJester Shoot Blues, Tell VileRat! 00:29, 10 December 2024 (UTC)
- I added it because the status section of the Infobox says "ongoing" and their is certainly an ongoing Israeli military campaign taking place to destroy Syria's so-called "strategic heavy weapons". GWA88 (talk) 01:13, 10 December 2024 (UTC)
- I get that logic and don't disagree, but that isn't immediately apparent -- as written one could easily interpret it as suggesting that the destruction is completed or confirmed. I did certainly took it that way. Perhaps there's a better way to phrase it as "ongoing strikes against Syria's strategic weapons"? That way we're both more precise and not venturing into any original research with regards to whether weapons have actually been destroyed or not.⇒SWATJester Shoot Blues, Tell VileRat! 03:27, 10 December 2024 (UTC)
