births/deaths

[edit]

Thanks for your edit to update the births and deaths for January 26. I'm afraid I could only use Bessie Coleman. Henry Briggs (mathematician) has too many paragraph without citations, and the "Death" section of Khorloogiin Choibalsan (the very reason he's being featured) lacks any references. I've tagged both articles, making them ineligible. Please don't let this discourage you, however. I always appreciate the assistance in finding new articles. One other note for future reference: please do not delete the previous year's articles. Instead, please move them to the staging area so that they can be used again later. Thanks. howcheng {chat} 19:20, 23 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I see that you are familiar with both the ITN and DYK processes. Just keep in mind that articles selected for OTD should be of similar quality, although I think we let you get away with more {{cn}} tags at OTD than the other two. Thanks again. howcheng {chat} 19:22, 23 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Howcheng, I will keep your comments in mind. Thank you for letting me know about the staging area. Joofjoof (talk) 22:06, 23 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Lord make us strong

[edit]

Herr, mach uns stark, can we please talk about the hook, instead of just making changes to an approved version? I have been criticised for unhooky hooks, and now I had something quite unusual, and we loose it? - I haven't heard of a hymn initiated by a composer wanting a certain melody, - please bring that fact back, in whatever wording. Also, define "hymn repertoire", please, and for songs it might be a simple "repertory", I guess. The hymn didn't enter the repertory, sadly. It's there, it's great, but not frequently sung. - In general, I like your work on hooks, don't forget ;) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 07:59, 25 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

DYK Prep 1 pringle tug

[edit]

Hi Joofjoof, I noticed you promoted a number of hooks to the prep areas. I was looking at prep one, specifically Template:Did you know nominations/Robert C. Pringle (tug), and thought it to be particularly uninteresting compared to the others, especially for an image slot. I was wondering if you might switch it (I was looking at Template:Did you know nominations/Thomas Ashburton Picken earlier and it has a nice image) and we could request new hooks for the Pringle nomination. Thanks for this. It's been bothering me for a few days—ever since I saw you'd created a bio for Eden—that I couldn't remember the name of the CFCA. :-) Ymnes (talk) 17:42, 19 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Dance

[edit]

I just completed nl:dans in Suriname today, which was actually a quite time consuming one :-) When talking about dances one seems to be distracted quickly by thinking about music instead. So I really needed to focus and to keep on the trail of dances. I've got some articles on Surinam dance(ers) left to write in the coming week(s), which may change the article still a bit. But if you like the subject, this may be a good tip for giving an English language counterpart as well, after about some weeks. But please always don't do so if don't you feel this is a good subject for you. In fact, I just wanted to share someone that Wikipedia has this one now too Take care and best regards, Ymnes (talk) 20:38, 7 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Ymnes, this article looks very nice! It will be a good companion to Music of Suriname, showing the roots of these music styles. I will keep it in my watchlist. All the best, Joofjoof (talk) 09:59, 10 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I had some possible additions, but I think it's o.k. by now. I wish you a nice weekend Joofjoof! Ymnes (talk) 19:39, 16 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Today, I still found some minor things, I'm sorry :-) Ymnes (talk) 21:18, 17 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
No worries, Ymnes! I can change it :) Could you add a reference for the Chinese section too? Joofjoof (talk) 21:47, 17 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Good to read! When the Chinese section is concerned, I wrote what I know. I can't find a source that exactly describes it, but I didn't want to have the article without it. Ymnes (talk) 22:32, 17 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I guess we weren't lucky with DYK, however thank you very much with the English version of Dance in Suriname! Take care, Ymnes (talk) 22:16, 8 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
You're welcome Ymnes! Fear not, our DYK nomination is still open; getting a review takes time. Joofjoof (talk) 06:00, 9 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Flooding

[edit]

Hoi Joofjoof, how are you doing? I would like to mention that I have written nl:Overstromingen in Suriname 2022 (flooding in Suriname) today. Maybe it is interesting to you. The cause is La Niña, I read in my sources. There was a mention too that there were floodings in more countries, but I'm not sure about that. Just in case. Have a nice day! Ymnes (talk) 16:00, 16 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hoi Ymnes, I am well, thanks! This is an important article - I have translated it here: March 2022 Suriname flooding. Hopefully it will subside soon. Joofjoof (talk) 12:11, 17 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Man camp

[edit]

Hi Joofjoof, I noticed you flagged the article Man camp for bias toward North America. I'm mostly familiar with this term being used for resource extraction projects in USA and Canada, but I'm sure there are similar terms and similar issues related to projects elsewhere. If you can point me toward relevant sources covering resource extraction on other continents, I'd love to check them out. In English or Spanish is fine. Thanks, Larataguera (talk) 01:37, 19 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks Joofjoof. These are interesting sources. I don't think they could go into the article on Man camps, because they don't use that term--although it's obviously a related topic. I think these could go into Mining in Brazil to start. And then maybe you're right about another article eventually. Anyway, I still haven't seen the term 'man camp' used outside North America, though I suppose it might be. Thanks for sharing! Larataguera (talk) 21:16, 21 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Any more free-use pictures you could find of Nauruan politicians in Taiwan would be greatly appreciated. I'm especially thankful for your picture of Gabrissa Hartman. ArbCom 2024 Elections voter message

[edit]

Hello! Voting in the 2024 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 2 December 2024. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2024 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add {{NoACEMM}} to your user talk page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 00:46, 19 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
