Edit summaries

[edit]

Information icon Hello. Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia.

When editing Wikipedia, there is a field labeled "Edit summary" below the main edit box. It looks like this:

Edit summary (Briefly describe your changes)

Please be sure to provide a summary of every edit you make, even if you write only the briefest of summaries. The summaries are very helpful to people browsing an article's history.

Edit summary content is visible in:

Please use the edit summary to explain your reasoning for the edit, or a summary of what the edit changes. With a Wikipedia account you can give yourself a reminder to add an edit summary by setting Preferences → Editing → Tick Prompt me when entering a blank edit summary. Thanks! [edit]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Leopold Sánchez, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Cartagena. Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

It's OK to remove this message. Also, to stop receiving these messages, follow these opt-out instructions. Thanks, DPL bot (talk) 06:00, 17 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Thanks for noticing my mistake. From now on I will be more careful about that. Normantas Bataitis (talk) 14:24, 17 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Kenny J's country of birth

[edit]

Hi. I noticed that you changed "Trinidad and Tobago" to "British Windward Islands" for Kenny J's country of birth. I wanted to clarify that even though the country wasn't independent yet in 1952, "Trinidad and Tobago" has existed since the union of the two colonies in 1889. In addition, Trinidad was never part of the British Windward Islands, and though Tobago was briefly part of that entity, it was only for a couple decades in the middle of the 19th century. Guettarda (talk) 16:05, 3 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Thanks for information. I will pay attention to your remarks in future editing. Normantas Bataitis (talk) 16:23, 3 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on Category:2022 animal births indicating that it is currently empty, and is not a disambiguation category, a category redirect, a featured topics category, under discussion at Categories for discussion, or a project category that by its nature may become empty on occasion. If it remains empty for seven days or more, it may be deleted under section C1 of the criteria for speedy deletion.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself. February 2022

[edit]

Hi there - Wikipedia relies on reliable sources to verify information, especially about living people. You didn't provide a source for your changes to the Fábio Zambiasi article, and I couldn't find one either. If you have a reliable source please let me know and we can change the article. Please let me know if you have any questions. GiantSnowman 16:28, 19 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Where in this reference[1] that you added to her article does it say March 27th for her date of death? It doesn't. This type of sloppy editing in BLPs is too prevalent around here. Read this talk page discussion[2] to better understand why I say that. BTW, Joyce died[3] on the 26th....William, is the complaint department really on the roof? 21:44, 27 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Correct referencing style

[edit]

Hi @Normantas Bataitis:, I see you doing this quite a lot and to save other users the time of having to correct it, it's probably more useful I point it out to you. References always follow punctuation, so if you're adding a reference for a death it should come after the ")" bracket, not before it. It's a minor point, but a significant one. Thanks --Jkaharper (talk) 13:43, 15 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Again, at Masanori Nishio. The article has Template:Use dmy dates. Kind regards, Robby.is.on (talk) 22:53, 3 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I don't understand what date format should be in articles about Japanese persons: dmy or mdy? Normantas Bataitis (talk) 19:58, 4 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
MOS:DATETIES states that "Articles on topics with strong ties to a particular English-speaking country should generally use the date format most commonly used in that nation. For the United States this is (for example) July 4, 1976; for most other English-speaking countries it is 4 July 1976." When a Japanese person does not have "strong ties to a particular English-speaking country" then MOS:DATERET is the relevant guideline. Robby.is.on (talk) 21:56, 5 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for explanation. Normantas Bataitis (talk) 09:41, 6 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Please respect national varieties of English

[edit]

Information icon Hello. In a recent edit to the page Mike D'Amato, you changed one or more words or styles from one national variety of English to another. Because Wikipedia has readers from all over the world, our policy is to respect national varieties of English in Wikipedia articles.

For a subject exclusively related to the United Kingdom (for example, a famous British person), use British English. For something related to the United States in the same way, use American English. For something related to another English-speaking country, such as Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Ireland, India, or Pakistan, use the variety of English used there. For an international topic, use the form of English that the first author of the article used.

In view of that, please don't change articles from one version of English to another, even if you don't normally use the version in which the article is written. Respect other people's versions of English. They, in turn, should respect yours. Other general guidelines on how Wikipedia articles are written can be found in the Manual of Style. If you have any questions about this, you can ask me on my talk page or visit the help desk. Thank you. Please change the spelling of "favo(u)r" and "hono(u)r" back to the American English version in the Mike D'Amato article. MarconiCheese (talk) 15:14, 14 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, as per Template:Infobox_person#Parameters,

Omit unnecessary or redundant details. For example, it is not necessary to state: New York City, New York, United States when New York City, U.S. conveys essentially the same information more concisely.

, adding the state to "New York City" in an infobox is unnecessary. Connormah (talk) 20:53, 9 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

"Japanese Korea" or "Chōsen"

[edit]

Hello, as per the RFC on Talk:Kim Dae-jung#RFC: Should individuals born in Korea under Japanese rule have their birthplace as "Japanese Korea" or "Chōsen", individuals born under Korea under Japanese rule should have their birthplace listed as "Japanese Korea" rather than "Chōsen". Please don't change it to Chōsen in the infobox. ⁂CountHacker (talk) 05:01, 14 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Please don't change the format of dates, as you did to Amaechi Muonagor. As a general rule, if an article has evolved using predominantly one format, the dates should be left in the format they were originally written in, unless there are reasons for changing it based on strong national ties to the topic. Please also note that Wikipedia does not use ordinal suffixes (e.g., st, nd, th), articles, or leading zeros on dates.

For more information about how dates should be written on Wikipedia, please see this page.

If you have any questions about this, ask me on my talk page, or place {{helpme}} on your talk page and someone will show up shortly to answer your questions. Enjoy your time on Wikipedia. Thank you. All the Best! Otuọcha (talk) 21:12, 24 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Also, please do not WP:EASTEREGG links such as hidding "Pahlavi Iran" inside a link to "Iran"diff.

Infoboxes, again

[edit]

Please stop saying it is a "correction" to add a state or province in the info box. You've just been warned about this before. A correction would be correcting the city or country if there was an error. Your summaries are therefore inaccurate , because "Calcutta, India" has nothing that needs correcting. What you did was apply personal taste, which is against the recommendations, as you have already been told Unknown Temptation (talk) 23:59, 10 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Removal of death date and age template on Rodrigo Raineri article

[edit]

Hi Normantas Bataitis! I noticed in this edit to the "Rodrigo Raineri" article, one of the changes you made was to replace Template:Death date and age with his information by writing out the date date in the infobox. I also noticed that you added that he was 55 at death, when the template indicated he could either be 56 or 57 at death based on just the year 1969. Is there a reason for these changes? Would you have any objections to changing it back to use the template? Thanks! Wikipedialuva (talk) 23:33, 6 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry for the very late reply. The reason is that his age was written in news article about his death. Normantas Bataitis (talk) 14:39, 9 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Normantas Bataitis:, regarding the above page... unless I'm missing something, is there a reason why you've been adding mottos in BLOCK CAPITAL LETTERS to the inboxes? I'm unaware of a guideline that instructs us to do this, including when we're quoting newspaper headlines (even if the website in question formats that way)? Thanks --Jkaharper (talk) 15:43, 4 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I do that because mottos are written that way in the coats of arms. Normantas Bataitis (talk) 17:21, 4 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Fair enough. It's not correct as per the Manual of Style though. Same can be said of some news sites. TMZ always style their headlines in block capitals, but we don't copy it out like that when we're referring to it. --Jkaharper (talk) 23:00, 4 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
