Although some prefer welcoming newcomers with cookies, I find fruit to be a healthier alternative.

Hello, Whatif222, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like this place and decide to stay.

Why can't I edit some particular pages?
Some pages that have been vandalized repeatedly are semi-protected, meaning that editing by new or unregistered users is prohibited through technical measures. If you have an account that is four days old and has made at least 10 edits, then you can bypass semi-protection and edit any semi-protected page. Some pages, such as highly visible templates, are fully-protected, meaning that only administrators can edit them. If this is not the case, you may have been blocked or your IP address caught up in a range block.
Where can I experiment with editing Wikipedia?
How do I create an article?
See how to create your first article, then use the Article Wizard to create one, and add references to the article as explained below.
How do I create citations?
  1. Do a search on Google or your preferred search engine for the subject of the Wikipedia article that you want to create a citation for.
  2. Find a website that supports the claim you are trying to find a citation for.
  3. In a new tab/window, go to the citation generator, click on the 'An arbitrary website' bubble, and fill out as many fields as you can about the website you just found.
  4. Click the 'Get reference wiki text' button.
  5. Highlight, and then copy (Ctrl+C or Apple+C), the resulting text (it will be something like <ref> {{cite web | .... }}</ref>, copy the whole thing).
  6. In the Wikipedia article, after the claim you found a citation for, paste (Ctrl+V or Apple+V) the text you copied.
  7. If the article does not have a References or Notes section (or the like), add this to the bottom of the page, but above the External Links section and the categories:
==References==
{{Reflist}}
What is a WikiProject, and how do I join one?
A WikiProject is a group of editors that are interested in improving the coverage of certain topics on Wikipedia. (See this page for a complete list of WikiProjects.) If you would like to help, add your username to the list that is on the bottom of the WikiProject page.

Information icon Welcome to Wikipedia, and thank you for your contributions. Although everyone is welcome to contribute constructively to the encyclopedia, please note that there is a Manual of Style that should be followed to maintain a consistent, encyclopedic appearance. Deviating from this style, as you did in Guangdong, disturbs uniformity among articles and may cause readability or accessibility problems. Please take a look at the welcome page to learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia. The use of flags is usually discouraged in infoboxes. Remsense 22:14, 6 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Introduction to contentious topics

[edit]

You have recently edited a page related to India, Pakistan, and Afghanistan, a topic designated as contentious. This is a brief introduction to contentious topics and does not imply that there are any issues with your editing.

A special set of rules applies to certain topic areas, which are referred to as contentious topics. These are specially designated topics that tend to attract more persistent disruptive editing than the rest of the project and have been designated as contentious topics by the Arbitration Committee. When editing a contentious topic, Wikipedia’s norms and policies are more strictly enforced, and Wikipedia administrators have special powers in order to reduce disruption to the project.

Within contentious topics, editors should edit carefully and constructively, refrain from disrupting the encyclopedia, and:

  • adhere to the purposes of Wikipedia;
  • comply with all applicable policies and guidelines;
  • follow editorial and behavioural best practice;
  • comply with any page restrictions in force within the area of conflict; and
  • refrain from gaming the system.

Editors are advised to err on the side of caution if unsure whether making a particular edit is consistent with these expectations. If you have any questions about contentious topics procedures you may ask them at the arbitration clerks' noticeboard or you may learn more about this contentious topic here. You may also choose to note which contentious topics you know about by using the {{Ctopics/aware}} template.

Information icon Thanks for contributing to the article Kajakarahu. However, one of Wikipedia's core policies is that material must be verifiable and attributed to reliable sources. You have recently used citations which copied, or mirrored, material from Wikipedia. This leads to a circular reference and is not acceptable. Hi and thanks for your edits. Before adding flags to infoboxes you should study MOS:INFOBOXFLAG which recommends not doing this, with certain exceptions. MOS:OVERLINK is also worth a look. John (talk) 09:22, 28 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hey John, I understand the Situation but by adding flags to infobox building it shows the location of country which looks quite good pls share your views on it. Thanks Whatif222 (talk) 09:38, 28 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
That's your opinion and you're welcome to it, but the settled opinion of many other editors who have debated this for years is that they add nothing to articles. There will be a central location where you could discuss this if you wanted to try to sway the consensus, but meantime please don't add any more flags. John (talk) 09:50, 28 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you, John. I propose that we omit the flag and simply indicate the country of origin in the infobox. Whatif222 Whatif222 (talk) 10:39, 28 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on John Henry Budden requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to be an unambiguous copyright infringement. This page appears to be a direct copy from https://www.britishempire.co.uk/article/almora.htm. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images taken from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites or other printed material as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

If the external website or image belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text or image — which means allowing other people to use it for any reason — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. The same holds if you are not the owner but have their permission. If you are not the owner and do not have permission, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission for how you may obtain it. You might want to look at Wikipedia's copyright policy for more details, or ask a question here.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Request reason:

I sincerely apologize for my past mistakes on Wikipedia. I understand that my actions regarding copyediting and the use of copyrighted content were inappropriate and violated the project's policies. I take full responsibility for these errors and am deeply remorseful for any harm they may have caused.

I am committed to learning from this experience and becoming a responsible and constructive contributor to Wikipedia. I have taken the time to familiarize myself with the guidelines and policies regarding copyright and editing practices. I am eager to apply this knowledge to make positive contributions to the encyclopedia.

I humbly request an opportunity to be unblocked. I assure you that I will adhere to all rules and regulations and strive to be a valuable member of the Wikipedia community. Thank you for your time and consideration.

In order to lift the block, we need to be certain that you understand how copyright works on Wikipedia. Please respond to the following questions, explaining in your own words:
  • What is copyright?
  • How is Wikipedia licenced?
  • Why is copyrighted content not allowed on Wikipedia?
  • Under what circumstances can we use copyrighted content?
  • How do you intend to avoid violating the copyright policy in the future?
Your answers will enable us to establish whether or not you should be unblocked. -- asilvering (talk) 03:12, 17 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
1] Copyright refers to the legal right granted to the creator of an original work which allows them to control how that work is used and distributed. It gives the creator exclusive rights to their property for a certain period, preventing others from using it without permission and copyright also helps the original creators to get credits of their work and also to prevent the gains by others without the creators permissions.
2] Wikipedia is licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike (CC BY-SA). This means that all content and many images on Wikipedia can be freely copied, modified, and shared, as long as users give credits to the original authors and share their contributions under the same terms.
3] Copyrighted content is not allowed on Wikipedia because it goes against its mission of providing free information to everyone. Copyrights restrict how content can be used, and using it without permission would be disrespectful to creators and illegal. Wikipedia's license requires content to be freely usable and modifiable, so copyrighted material just doesn't fit.
4] The circustances when copyrighted content can be used in wikipedia are 1] when the original creator or the copyright holder of the work grants permission, 2] when the content is in the public domain and is no longer under copyright, 3] Under the fair use provisions which allows for limited use of copyrighted material for purposes such as criticism, education , but this is used under strict guidelines. 4] and when the content is in the Creative Commons license.
5] To avoid violating the copyright policy in future I'll Always verify the source and license of any content I add, and the art which i used to articles is completely mine, And I'll request the original copyright holders for their approval for further use when needed, always add relevant data to the articles and always be neutral, And the most important thing I'll do is to take note of the wikipedias policy guidelines to ensure that I do not harm it in future and always make wikipedia better for people. I know that it's really important to respect the original creator for their work and to give them credits. And at last but not the least I'll not promote any kind of mistakes again which promotes vandalism. I thank to all the wikipedia team including respected Administrators for reviewing my unblocking appeal, I hope that none of these mistakes would be repeated again in future, I would be grateful towards you. I don't think this is a good answer to the questions. Can you guess why? -- asilvering (talk) 04:47, 17 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hmm, have I written the answers too long!?? If there are any other reasons I really can't guess, I apologize Whatif222 (talk) 05:00, 17 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I don't think the answers are that bad - I've seen far worse. Just so you know, we don't require "permission" from copyright holders, we need them to release the content under a compatible free license. That said, I have never done this, so I don't think it's as routine as you imply. Also, for text, re-writing it in your own words, avoiding close paraphrasing is key. For images which are copyrighted, the policy is WP:NONFREE. asilvering - what strikes you as wrong in these answers? PhilKnight (talk) 15:29, 17 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks dear Administrator for your feedback. I understand that my earlier actions on paraphrasing might not align with Wikipedia’s standards, the need for original phrasing rather than close paraphrasing. @PhilKnight Whatif222 (talk) 16:29, 17 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@PhilKnight, they're copied/LLM-generated, with the exception of answer #5. If you don't see it, for WP:BEANS reasons, shoot me an email. -- asilvering (talk) 18:44, 17 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
alright! Got it. Thanks once again Whatif222 (talk) 01:52, 18 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

The administrators have blocked me but I have made myself familiar with the wikipedia guidelines and I plead not to repeat the same mistakes again and would work for the betterment of wikipedia pls unblock me dear wikipedia team!

You have filed an unblock request, which will be considered once an administrator gets around to it. You do not need to make help requests. In fact, do not make help requests, unless you actually require some assistance (not related to your unblock request). --DoubleGrazing (talk) 09:40, 24 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, User:Whatif222.

Per our discussion on IRC, I'm giving you (another) opportunity below to show the admins that you understand our policy on Copyright.

Please answer these questions in your own words and do not use ChatGPT or copy-paste them from elsewhere.

Are the following examples okay or not okay behaviour regarding copyright on Wikipedia (and why)?

  1. I'm making a new article about a movie. I go to a review site for the movie, like IMDb, and copy the text and paste it into Wikipedia.
  2. Same as the above, but this time I change some of the words.
  3. How about if I only copied a single sentence?
  4. How about if I said 'ReviewWebsite described the movie as "[copied text]", and the text was brief?

MolecularPilot 🧪️✈️ 09:29, 24 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks Sir For this opportunity the answers this time are completely written by me:
That's not okay, as if I copy and paste the same text from the review website also known as copyediting ,which is strictly against the wikipedia guidelines and my articles can be nominated for the speedy deletion, the best way according to me is to write the information in our own language.
not okay as just changing some words from the original text is not enough to avoid copyright from the original publisher. The content that we write in the articles should be original not copypasted from an another site
Hmm this depends upon the sentence length whether its a short lined or a big paragraph, acc to me a short line can be considered for fair use but again the best way is to paraphrase
for this it's okay but with some necessary conditions like we can give attributions, citing the content only from the reliable souces and if still there are any mistakes we can talk with reviewer or administrators how can we improve it. Whatif222 (talk) 09:50, 24 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hiiii! You're sooooo close:
  1. Is correct! It's just not called "copyediting" - that's fixing grammar mistakes, but the name is irrelevant - you know it's wrong.
  2. Yessss! Go you!! :)
  3. Good job, your "best way" is correct. Just be really clear here - significantly paraphrase (as WP:CLOSEPARAPHRASE is a thing and not allowed), but I'm sure that's what you meant as you demonstrated it was wrong in #2.
  4. Yayyyy! Correct! :)
Honestly, I'm so proud of you for learning about all of our policies and writing them in our own words this time.
I'll leave a note at WP:ANI or the unblock IRC regarding your appeal, and an admin will come and review.
btw it's ma'am - but that's irrelevant. we're all editors here so no need for formalities. MolecularPilot 🧪️✈️ 10:08, 24 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Unblocked

[edit]

Whatif222, I have unblocked you. Please read Wikipedia:One last chance and do your very best to comply with Wikipedia's Policies and guidelines in the future. If you receive a warning, take it seriously, try to understand, and adjust your behavior. MolecularPilot has very kindly offered to assist you, and if you ever need advice from an administrator, feel free to ask me.

Some other advice: Copyediting is not related to copyright violations. The English word "copy" has several meanings. One meaning is to duplicate something. Another meaning is some written text. Please read Copy editing and Copy (publishing).

When you call another editor "Sir", you are assuming that the editor is a man. Please don't do that. Cullen328 (talk) 19:41, 24 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Cullen328, just letting you know that I've re-blocked here because of this. If you'd happened to ask my opinion before unblocking I'd have told you that I didn't find the user's understanding of copyright policy clear enough to justify doing so (I'd already have unblocked had I been satisfied, of course). Regards, Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 16:46, 25 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Justlettersandnumbers, that is disappointing. I apologize. Cullen328 (talk) 18:51, 25 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Behnoosh (name) moved to draftspace

[edit]

Thanks for your contributions to Behnoosh (name). Unfortunately, I do not think it is ready for publishing at this time because it has no independent reliable sources and much of it is altogether unsourced. I have converted your article to a draft which you can improve, undisturbed for a while.

Please see more information at Help:Unreviewed new page. When the article is ready for publication, please click on the "Submit for review" button at the top of the page OR move the page back. Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 16:27, 25 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

oppposing the block

[edit]

Today I got unblocked by one of the administrators, and i decided to spend my time creating good articles for wikipedia and created an article in which all the text was written completely by me nor i have copied any text from any external source and moreover the draft was even selected by still i am blocked indefinitely, if you think that i have did a mistake then why was the article selected. Targeting a single user is not a good idea. I am broked with my experiences with the team and now thinks to delete my account permanently! Whatif222 (talk) 17:04, 25 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

oppose for the block

[edit]

any reasons for you to block me again, I have been always respectful towards every staff member, I took my time collecting information writing it in my own language. but still got banned. If you thought that i created a mistake you could have left a message on my talk page but you just blocked me. The draft is written on my own and none of the paragraphs are being copied

Your reason here Whatif222 (talk) 17:10, 25 November 2024 (UTC) Today I got unblocked by one of the administrators, and i decided to spend my time creating good articles for wikipedia and created an article in which all the text was written completely by me nor i have copied any text from any external source and moreover the draft was even selected by still i am blocked indefinitely, if you think that i have did a mistake then why was the article selected. Decline reason:

Per below, you did copy a sentence into your draft wholesale from the source. Since this was a last-chance unblock for previous copyright violations, any unblock request will need to be extraordinarily convincing. Also, for what it's worth, it is not technically possible for accounts to be deleted. Writ Keeper  18:15, 25 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

No, it was not all written completely by you. With your third edit to Behnoosh (name), you copied a sentence from this copyrighted page. Here's a comparison:
Your text The source
In the United States, Behnoosh is ranked as the 49,213th most popular given name in the United States, with an estimated population of 70 individuals having that name BEHNOOSH is ranked as the 49213th most popular given name in the United States with an estimated population of 70
The only changes you made were to down-case Behnoosh and add two commas. That is WP:copyright violation, plain and simple, and we can't allow that. Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 18:04, 25 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@User:Justlettersandnumbers, that text that Whatif222 "copied" is literally the most simple and basic thing written. The sentence structure is too simple. Such a simple sentence structure is not copyright vio. Sure, it's not grammatically perfect and would be better off mildly tweaked, but it sure isn't copyvio material. Block context

[edit]

To any admin for future unblock requests: user came into IRC live chat with zero indication they understand why copyvio is a serious issue, even asking if copyvio is okay "...if the editing was done for the help of wikipedia". qcne (talk) 13:41, 30 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I didn't mean that I stand with copyright violation but I mean to say the structure of the statement used by me in the previous draft! Whatif222 (talk) 13:54, 30 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
